1 And it came to pass that, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, He departed thence to teach and preach in their cities. When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities. 2 And John, having heard, in the prison, of the works of the Christ, sending by his disciples, Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples
3 said to Him, "Art Thou the Coming One, or are we to look for another?" and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
4 And Jesus, answering, said to them, "Having gone, report to John what ye are hearing and seeing: And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
5 the blind receive sight, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have the Gospel proclaimed to them. the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
6 And happy is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in Me." And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
7 And, as these were going, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken by the wind? As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
8 But what went ye out to see? a man in soft raiment ; Behold, those wearing soft raiment are in kings' houses. What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.
9 But why did ye go out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 This is he of whom it has been written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Thy face, who shall prepare Thy way before Thee.' This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ This is the one about whom it is written: “’I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’
11 "Verily I say to you, there has not arisen, among those born of women, a greater than John the Immerser; yet he that is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the time of John the Immerser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven is taken by storm, and violent men seize upon it; From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it.
13 for all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
14 and, if ye are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is about to come. and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.
15 He that has ears let him hear. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
16 "But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who, calling to the others, “But to what shall I compare this generation? 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a man gluttonous and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners.' And wisdom was justified by her works." 20 Then He began to upbraid the cities in which were done most of His mighty works, because they did not repent. Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.
21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! because, if the mighty works which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes; “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23 "And you, Capernaum, shall you be exalted to Heaven? You shall go down to Hades; because, if the mighty works which were done in you, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
24 Nevertheless, I say to you, that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you!" But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.” But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
25 At that season Jesus, answering, said, "I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, because Thou didst hide these things from the wise and discerning, and didst reveal them to babes. At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26 Yea, Father, because so it was well-pleasing before Thee! yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 "All things were delivered to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows the Son except the Father; neither does any one fully know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son willeth to reveal Him. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 "Come to me, all ye who are laboring and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; because I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest for your souls; Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 for My yoke is easy, and My burden light." For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
