1 Jesus went into a synagogue again. A man who had a paralyzed hand was there. Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand. Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.
2 The people were watching Jesus closely. They wanted to see whether he would heal the man on the day of worship so that they could accuse him of doing something wrong. And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.
3 So he told the man with the paralyzed hand, |Stand in the center [of the synagogue].| And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.” Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then he asked them, |Is it right to do good or to do evil on the day of worship, to give a person back his health or to let him die?| But they were silent. And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 Jesus was angry as he looked around at them. He was deeply hurt because their minds were closed. Then he told the man, |Hold out your hand.| The man held it out, and his hand became normal again. And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
6 The Pharisees left, and with Herod's followers they immediately plotted to kill Jesus. The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
7 Jesus left with his disciples for the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd from Galilee, Judea, Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.
8 Jerusalem, Idumea, and from across the Jordan River, and from around Tyre and Sidon followed him. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.
9 Jesus told his disciples to have a boat ready so that the crowd would not crush him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.
10 He had cured so many that everyone with a disease rushed up to him in order to touch him. for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.
11 Whenever people with evil spirits saw him, they would fall down in front of him and shout, |You are the Son of God!| And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”
12 He gave them orders not to tell people who he was. And he strictly ordered them not to make him known. But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
13 Jesus went up a mountain, called those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.
14 He appointed twelve whom he called apostles. They were to accompany him and to be sent out by him to spread [the Good News]. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach
15 They also had the authority to force demons out of people. and have authority to cast out demons. and to have authority to drive out demons.

20 Then Jesus went home. Another crowd gathered so that Jesus and his disciples could not even eat. Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.
21 When his family heard about it, they went to get him. They said, |He's out of his mind!| And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
22 The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said, |Beelzebul is in him,| and |He forces demons out of people with the help of the ruler of demons.| And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”
23 Jesus called them together and used this illustration: |How can Satan force out Satan? And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?
24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a household is divided against itself, that household will not last. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 So if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot last. That will be the end of him. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.
27 |No one can go into a strong man's house and steal his property. First he must tie up the strong man. Then he can go through the strong man's house and steal his property. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.
28 |I can guarantee this truth: People will be forgiven for any sin or curse. “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter,
29 But whoever curses the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. He is guilty of an everlasting sin.| but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
30 Jesus said this because the scribes had said that he had an evil spirit. for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”
31 Then his mother and his brothers arrived. They stood outside and sent someone to ask him to come out. And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.
32 The crowd sitting around Jesus told him, |Your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you.| And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
33 He replied to them, |Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?| And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
34 Then looking at those who sat in a circle around him, he said, |Look, here are my mother and my brothers. And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
35 Whoever does what God wants is my brother and sister and mother.| For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.” Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
