17 ὁ δὲ [Ἰησοῦς] ἀπεκρίνατο αὐτοῖς Ὁ Πατήρ μου ἕως ἄρτι ἐργάζεται κἀγὼ ἐργάζομαι But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
18 Διὰ τοῦτο οὖν μᾶλλον ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἀποκτεῖναι ὅτι οὐ μόνον ἔλυεν τὸ σάββατον ἀλλὰ καὶ Πατέρα ἴδιον ἔλεγεν τὸν Θεόν ἴσον ἑαυτὸν ποιῶν τῷ Θεῷ This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
