“I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. | “I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling. | These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. | “These things I have spoken to you so that you will not be led into sin. |
They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. | They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God. | They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. | They will ban you from the synagogue, yet an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering a service to God. |
And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. | They will do these things because they haven’t known the Father or Me. | And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. | These things they will do because they have not known the Father nor Me. |
But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. “I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. | But I have told you these things so that when their time comes you may remember I told them to you. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. | But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. | But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. However, I did not say these things to you at the beginning, because I was with you. |
But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ | “But now I am going away to Him who sent Me, and not one of you asks Me, Where are You going?’ | But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? | “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ |
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. | Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. | But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. | But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. |
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. | Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you. | Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. | But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. |
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: | When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: | And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: | And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: |
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; | About sin, because they do not believe in Me; | Of sin, because they believe not on me; | regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me; |
concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; | about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; | Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; | and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; |
concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. | and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. | Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. | and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. |
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. | “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. | I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. | “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. |
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. | When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. | Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. | But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. |
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. | He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you. | He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. | He will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. |
All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. | Everything the Father has is Mine. This is why I told you that He takes from what is Mine and will declare it to you. | All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. | All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you. |
“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” | “A little while and you will no longer see Me; again a little while and you will see Me.” | A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. | “A little while, and you no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me.” |
So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” | Therefore some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this He tells us: A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me; and, because I am going to the Father?” | Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? | So some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this that He is telling us, ‘A little while, and you are not going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” |
So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” | They said, “What is this He is saying, ‘A little while? We don’t know what He’s talking about!” | They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. | So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” |
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? | Jesus knew they wanted to question Him, so He said to them, “Are you asking one another about what I said, A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me? | Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? | Jesus knew that they wanted to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you are not going to see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? |
Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. | “I assure you: You will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. | Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. | Truly, truly I say to you that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy! |
When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. | When a woman is in labor she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a person has been born into the world. | A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. | Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. |
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. | So you also have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy. | And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. | Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one is going to take your joy away from you. |
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. | In that day you will not ask Me anything. “I assure you: Anything you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. | And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. | And on that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. |
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. | Until now you have asked for nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. | Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. | Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. |
“I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. | “I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father. | These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. | “These things I have spoken to you in figures of speech; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. |
In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; | In that day you will ask in My name. I am not telling you that I will make requests to the Father on your behalf. | At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: | On that day you will ask in My name, and I am not saying to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; |
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. | For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God. | For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. | for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father. |
I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.” | I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.|” | I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. | I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.” |
His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! | Ah!” His disciples said. “Now You’re speaking plainly and not using any figurative language. | His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. | His disciples said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and are not using any figure of speech. |
Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.” | Now we know that You know everything and don’t need anyone to question You. By this we believe that You came from God.” | Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. | Now we know that You know all things, and that You have no need for anyone to question You; this is why we believe that You came forth from God.” |
Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? | Jesus responded to them, “Do you now believe? | Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? | Jesus replied to them, “Do you now believe? |
Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. | Look: An hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. | Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. | Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. |
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” | I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” | These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. | These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” |
