Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come, that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
And supper taking place and the devil already having put into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot that he should betray Him, During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
knowing that the Father has given to Him all things into the hands, and that He came forth from God and He is going to God, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
He rises from the supper and lays aside His garments. And having taken a towel, He girded Himself. rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
After that, He pours water into the basin, and He began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
Then He comes to Simon Peter, who says to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do, you do not know presently, but you will know after these things.” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Peter says to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet, to the age!” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head!” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
Jesus says to him, “The one having been bathed has no need to wash, except the feet, but is wholly clean. And you⁺ all are clean, but not all.” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”
For He knew the one who is betraying Him; on account of this He said, “You⁺ are not all clean.” For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.” For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
Therefore when He washed their feet and took His garments and reclined again, He said to them, “Do you⁺ know what I have done to you⁺? When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.
You⁺ call Me Teacher and Lord, and you⁺ say rightly, for I am. You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.
Therefore if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your⁺ feet, you⁺ also ought to wash the feet of one another. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
For I gave you⁺ an example so that as I did to you⁺, you⁺ also should do. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Truly, truly, I say to you⁺, a servant is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one having sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
If you⁺ know these things, you⁺ are blessed if you⁺ do them. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
