1 |But now, O Job, listen to my words, and hear everything I have to say! “But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words. “But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say.
2 See now, I have opened my mouth; my tongue in my mouth has spoken. Behold, I open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks. I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue.
3 My words come from the uprightness of my heart, and my lips will utter knowledge sincerely. My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely. My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know.
4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5 Reply to me, if you can; set your arguments in order before me and take your stand! Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand. Answer me then, if you can; stand up and argue your case before me.
6 Look, I am just like you in relation to God; I too have been molded from clay. Behold, I am toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of clay. I am the same as you in God’s sight; I too am a piece of clay.
7 Therefore no fear of me should terrify you, nor should my pressure be heavy on you. Behold, no fear of me need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy upon you. No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you.
8 |Indeed, you have said in my hearing (I heard the sound of the words!): “Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the sound of your words. “But you have said in my hearing— I heard the very words—
9 I am pure, without transgression; I am clean and have no iniquity. You say, ‘I am pure, without transgression; I am clean, and there is no iniquity in me. I am pure, I have done no wrong; I am clean and free from sin.
10 Yet God finds occasions with me; he regards me as his enemy! Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me as his enemy, Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy.
11 He puts my feet in shackles; he watches closely all my paths.' he puts my feet in the stocks and watches all my paths.’ He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.’
12 Now in this, you are not right--I answer you, for God is greater than a human being. “Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you, for God is greater than man. “But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal.
13 Why do you contend against him, that he does not answer all a person's words? Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of man’s words’? Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words?
14 |For God speaks, the first time in one way, the second time in another, though a person does not perceive it. For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it.

19 Or a person is chastened by pain on his bed, and with the continual strife of his bones, “Man is also rebuked with pain on his bed and with continual strife in his bones, “Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones,
20 so that his life loathes food, and his soul rejects appetizing fare. so that his life loathes bread, and his appetite the choicest food. so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal.
21 His flesh wastes away from sight, and his bones, which were not seen, are easily visible. His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. Their flesh wastes away to nothing, and their bones, once hidden, now stick out.
22 He draws near to the place of corruption, and his life to the messengers of death. His soul draws near the pit, and his life to those who bring death. They draw near to the pit, and their life to the messengers of death.
23 If there is an angel beside him, one mediator out of a thousand, to tell a person what constitutes his uprightness; If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the thousand, to declare to man what is right for him, Yet if there is an angel at their side, a messenger, one out of a thousand, sent to tell them how to be upright,
24 and if God is gracious to him and says, 'Spare him from going down to the place of corruption, I have found a ransom for him,' and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; and he is gracious to that person and says to God, ‘Spare them from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for them—
25 then his flesh is restored like a youth's; he returns to the days of his youthful vigor. let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor’; let their flesh be renewed like a child’s; let them be restored as in the days of their youth’—
26 He entreats God, and God delights in him, he sees God's face with rejoicing, and God restores to him his righteousness. then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness. then that person can pray to God and find favor with him, they will see God’s face and shout for joy; he will restore them to full well-being.
27 That person sings to others, saying: 'I have sinned and falsified what is right, but I was not punished according to what I deserved. He sings before men and says: ‘I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. And they will go to others and say, ‘I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved.
28 He redeemed my life from going down to the place of corruption, and my life sees the light!' He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’ God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’
29 |Indeed, God does all these things, twice, three times, in his dealings with a person, “Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, “God does all these things to a person— twice, even three times—
30 to turn back his life from the place of corruption, that he may be enlightened with the light of life. to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life. to turn them back from the pit, that the light of life may shine on them.
31 Pay attention, Job--listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. Pay attention, O Job, listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. “Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.
32 If you have any words, reply to me; speak, for I want to justify you. If you have any words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you. If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want to vindicate you.
33 If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.| If not, listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.” But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”
