So call your brothers 'Ammi,' and your sisters 'Ruhamah.'| Say to your brothers, “You are my people,” and to your sisters, “You have received mercy.” “Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’
|Call your mother to account, call her— for she is not my wife, and I'm not her husband. Let her do away with her seductive looks and remove her adultery from between her breasts. “Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband— that she put away her whoring from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts; “Rebuke your mother, rebuke her, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
Otherwise, I'll strip her naked— as she was on the day she was born— make her like a wilderness, turn her into a parched land, and cause her to die of thirst. lest I strip her naked and make her as in the day she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and make her like a parched land, and kill her with thirst. Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born; I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst.
Furthermore, I'll not show pity on her children, since they are children of prostitution. Upon her children also I will have no mercy, because they are children of whoredom. I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery.
Indeed, their mother has committed prostitution— the one who has been conceiving them has acted disgracefully— when she said, 'I'm going after my lovers, who provide me food and water, as well as my wool, my flax, my oil, and my wine.' For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’ Their mother has been unfaithful and has conceived them in disgrace. She said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my food and my water, my wool and my linen, my olive oil and my drink.’
|Look how I'm blocking her path with thorns and building a wall to hinder her, so she can't find her way. Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths. Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.
She will pursue her lovers, but she won't catch up with them. She will seek them, but she won't find them. Then she will say, 'I'll go back and return to my first husband, because it was better for me then than now.' She shall pursue her lovers but not overtake them, and she shall seek them but shall not find them. Then she shall say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.’ She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.’
She didn't recognize that it was I who provided her grain, wine, and oil, and it was I who gave her silver, while they crafted gold for Baal. And she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil, and who lavished on her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold— which they used for Baal.
|Therefore I'll return and take back my grain at harvest time and my new wine in its season. I'll take back my wool and my flax that was to have covered her nakedness. Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my wine in its season, and I will take away my wool and my flax, which were to cover her nakedness. “Therefore I will take away my grain when it ripens, and my new wine when it is ready. I will take back my wool and my linen, intended to cover her naked body.
So now I'll reveal her lewdness to the eyes of her lovers, and no man will rescue her from my control. Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and no one shall rescue her out of my hand. So now I will expose her lewdness before the eyes of her lovers; no one will take her out of my hands.
I'll put a stop to her mirth, along with her celebrations, her New Moons, her Sabbaths, and all of her festive assemblies. And I will put an end to all her mirth, her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her appointed feasts. I will stop all her celebrations: her yearly festivals, her New Moons, her Sabbath days—all her appointed festivals.
I'll destroy her vines and her fig trees, about which she said, 'These are the earnings that my lovers paid me. I'll make them grow into a forest, and the wild animals will eat from them.' And I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, ‘These are my wages, which my lovers have given me.’ I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall devour them. I will ruin her vines and her fig trees, which she said were her pay from her lovers; I will make them a thicket, and wild animals will devour them.
I'll punish her for the time she has devoted to the Baals, to whom she burned incense, and for whom she put on her earrings and jewels so she could go after her lovers and forget me,| declares the LORD. And I will punish her for the feast days of the Baals when she burned offerings to them and adorned herself with her ring and jewelry, and went after her lovers and forgot me, declares the LORD. I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot,” declares the LORD.
|Therefore, look! I will now allure her. I will make her go out to the wilderness, and will speak to her heart. “Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her.
There I will restore her vineyards to her, and the Valley of Achor will become a doorway to hope. There she will respond as she did in her youth, when she came up from Egypt.| And there I will give her her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will respond as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.
|It will come about at that time,| declares the LORD, |that you will address me as 'My husband,' and you will no longer call me 'My master'. “And in that day, declares the LORD, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’ “In that day,” declares the LORD, “you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.’
I will remove the names of the Baals from her vocabulary — they will not be remembered by their names anymore. For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more. I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips; no longer will their names be invoked.
I will make a covenant with them at that time, a covenant with the wild animals of the field, with the birds of the air, and with the creatures of the ground. I will banish the battle bow, the sword, and war from the earth. I will cause my people to lie down where it is safe. And I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety. In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky and the creatures that move along the ground. Bow and sword and battle I will abolish from the land, so that all may lie down in safety.
I will make you my wife forever— I will make you my wife in a way that is righteous, in a manner that is just, by a love that is gracious, and by a motive that is mercy. And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.
I will make you my wife because of my faithfulness, and you will know the LORD. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.
|It will come about at that time that I will respond,| declares the LORD, |I will respond to the heavens, and they will respond to the earth. “And in that day I will answer, declares the LORD, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth, “In that day I will respond,” declares the LORD— “I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth;
The earth will respond with grain, new wine, and oil, and they will respond to Jezreel. and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel, and the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, and they will respond to Jezreel.
I will plant my people in the land for myself. I will show mercy on her who has received no mercy I will say to those who are not my people, 'You are my people!' and they will say, 'You are my God.'| and I will sow her for myself in the land. And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, ‘You are my people’; and he shall say, ‘You are my God.’” I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.’ I will say to those called ‘Not my people,’ ‘You are my people’; and they will say, ‘You are my God.’”
