| 5The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile. | 5The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced over it and over its glory— for it has departed from them. | 5The inhabitants of Samaria will fear For the calf of Beth-aven. | 10When I please, I will punish them; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bonds for their double sin. | 10When I please, I will discipline them, and nations shall be gathered against them when they are bound up for their double iniquity. | 10When it is My desire, I will chastise them; And the peoples will be gathered against them When they are bound for their double guilt. | 10It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. | 10I will discipline them at My discretion; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bondage for their two crimes. |
| 11Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh; so I will put a yoke on her fair neck. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your warriors, | 13You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped injustice, You have eaten the fruit of lies. | 14the roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be devastated-- as Shalman devastated Beth Arbel on the day of battle, when mothers were dashed to the ground with their children. | 14therefore the tumult of war shall arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; mothers were dashed in pieces with their children. | 14Therefore a tumult will arise among your people, And all your fortresses will be destroyed, As Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle, When mothers were dashed in pieces with their children. | 14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. | 14the roar of battle will rise against your people, and all your fortifications will be demolished in a day of war, like Shalman's destruction of Beth-arbel. | 15So will it happen to you, Bethel, because your wickedness is great. When that day dawns, the king of Israel will be completely destroyed. | 15Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great evil.
