1 Therefore, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession: Jesus, Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, as also Moses was in all his house. who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
3 For he has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, because he who built the house has more honor than the house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
4 For every house is built by someone; but he who built all things is God. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
5 Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken, Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future.
6 but Christ is faithful as a Son over his house. We are his house, if we hold fast our confidence and the glorying of our hope firm to the end. but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
7 Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you will hear his voice, Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,
8 don’t harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of the trial in the wilderness, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years. where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said, ‘They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways.’ Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’
11 As I swore in my wrath, ‘They will not enter into my rest.’” As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
12 Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there might be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God; Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
13 but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called “today”, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence firm to the end, For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
15 while it is said, “Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.” As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”
16 For who, when they heard, rebelled? Wasn’t it all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
17 With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness?
18 To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed?
19 We see that they weren’t able to enter in because of unbelief. So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
