1 Hence, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, carefully consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
2 being faithful to the One having appointed Him, as Moses also in all His house. who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by as much as the one having built it has more honor than the house itself. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
4 For every house is built by someone, but the One having built everything is God. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
5 And indeed Moses was faithful as an attendant in all His house, for a testimony of the things going to be spoken, Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future.
6 but Christ as the Son over His house, whose house we are, if we should hold our confidence and the boast of our hope. but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you⁺ should hear His voice, Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your⁺ hearts, as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where forty years your⁺ fathers tested Me by trial and saw My works. where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 Therefore I was angry with this generation, and I said, ‘Always they go astray in their heart; and did not know My ways;’ Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’
11 as I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter into My rest.’” As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
12 See to it, brothers, lest ever there will be in any of you⁺ an evil heart of unbelief in the falling away from the living God. Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
13 But encourage one another each day, as long as it is called today, so that not any of you⁺ may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if indeed we should hold firm until the end the assurance from the beginning. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
15 As it is said: “Today if you⁺ should hear His voice, do not harden your⁺ hearts, as in the rebellion.” As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? But was it not all those having come forth out of Egypt through Moses? For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
17 And with whom was He angry forty years, if not with those having sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness?
18 And to whom did He swear that they will not enter into His rest, if not to those having disobeyed? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed?
19 And we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
