1 And these [are] the generations of Esau, who [is] Edom. These are the generations of Esau (that is, Edom). This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom).
2 Esau has taken his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, Esau took his wives from the Canaanites: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite—
3 and Bashemath daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nebajoth. and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaioth. also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.
4 And Adah bears to Esau, Eliphaz; and Bashemath has borne Reuel; And Adah bore to Esau, Eliphaz; Basemath bore Reuel; Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,
5 and Aholibamah has borne Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah. These [are] sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan. and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan. and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan.
6 And Esau takes his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his livestock, and all his beasts, and all his substance which he has acquired in the land of Canaan, and goes into the country from the face of his brother Jacob; Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his livestock, all his beasts, and all his property that he had acquired in the land of Canaan. He went into a land away from his brother Jacob. Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.
7 for their substance was more abundant than to dwell together, and the land of their sojournings was not able to bear them because of their livestock; For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together. The land of their sojournings could not support them because of their livestock. Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock.
8 and Esau dwells in Mount Seir: Esau is Edom. So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir. (Esau is Edom.) So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.
9 And these [are] the generations of Esau, father of Edom, in Mount Seir. These are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir. This is the account of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.
10 These [are] the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz son of Adah, wife of Esau; Reuel son of Bashemath, wife of Esau. These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau. These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.
11 And the sons of Eliphaz are Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz; The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.
12 and Timnath has been concubine to Eliphaz son of Esau, and she bears to Eliphaz, Amalek; these [are] sons of Adah wife of Esau. (Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son; she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife. Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.
13 And these [are] sons of Reuel: Nahath and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah; these were sons of Bashemath wife of Esau. These are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.
14 And these have been the sons of Aholibamah daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon, wife of Esau; and she bears to Esau, Jeush and Jaalam and Korah. These are the sons of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah.
15 These [are] chiefs of the sons of Esau: sons of Eliphaz, firstborn of Esau: Chief Teman, Chief Omar, Chief Zepho, Chief Kenaz, These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: the chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, These were the chiefs among Esau’s descendants: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,
16 Chief Korah, Chief Gatam, Chief Amalek; these [are] chiefs of Eliphaz, in the land of Edom; these [are] sons of Adah. Korah, Gatam, and Amalek; these are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah. Korah, Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons of Adah.
17 And these [are] sons of Reuel son of Esau: Chief Nahath, Chief Zerah, Chief Shammah, Chief Mizzah; these [are] chiefs of Reuel, in the land of Edom; these [are] sons of Bashemath wife of Esau. These are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: the chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these are the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. 18 And these [are] sons of Aholibamah wife of Esau: Chief Jeush, Chief Jaalam, Chief Korah; these [are] chiefs of Aholibamah daughter of Anah, wife of Esau. These are the sons of Oholibamah, Esau’s wife: the chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the chiefs born of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife. The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
19 These [are] sons of Esau (who [is] Edom), and these their chiefs. These are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs. These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their chiefs.
20 These [are] sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, These are the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan; these [are] chiefs of the Horites, sons of Seir, in the land of Edom. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs.
22 And the sons of Lotan are Hori and Heman; and a sister of Lotan [is] Timna. The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna. The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan’s sister.
23 And these [are] sons of Shobal: Alvan and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho and Onam. These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24 And these [are] sons of Zibeon, both Ajah and Anah: it [is] Anah that has found the Imim in the wilderness, in his feeding the donkeys of his father Zibeon. These are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah; he is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he pastured the donkeys of Zibeon his father. The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.
25 And these [are] sons of Anah: Dishon, and Aholibamah daughter of Anah. These are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
26 And these [are] sons of Dishon: Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. These are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.
27 These [are] sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan. These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.
28 These [are] sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.
29 These [are] chiefs of the Horite: Chief Lotan, Chief Shobal, Chief Zibeon, Chief Anah, These are the chiefs of the Horites: the chiefs Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
30 Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, Chief Dishan: these [are] chiefs of the Horite in reference to their chiefs in the land of Seir. Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, chief by chief in the land of Seir. Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.
31 And these [are] the kings who have reigned in the land of Edom before the reigning of a king over the sons of Israel. These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Israelites. These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:
32 And Bela son of Beor reigns in Edom, and the name of his city [is] Dinhabah; Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, the name of his city being Dinhabah. Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah.
33 and Bela dies, and Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah reigns in his stead; Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.
34 and Jobab dies, and Husham from the land of the Temanite reigns in his stead. Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.
35 And Husham dies, and Hadad son of Bedad reigns in his stead (who strikes Midian in the field of Moab), and the name of his city [is] Avith; Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place, the name of his city being Avith. When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.
36 and Hadad dies, and Samlah of Masrekah reigns in his stead; Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.
37 and Samlah dies, and Saul from Rehoboth of the River reigns in his stead; Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates reigned in his place. When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king.
38 and Saul dies, and Ba‘al-hanan son of Achbor reigns in his stead; Shaul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.
39 and Ba‘al-hanan son of Achbor dies, and Hadar reigns in his stead, and the name of his city [is] Pau; and his wife’s name [is] Mehetabel daughter of Matred, daughter of Me-zahab. Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place, the name of his city being Pau; his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab. When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.
40 And these [are] the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families, according to their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth, These are the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their clans and their dwelling places, by their names: the chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
41 Chief Aholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
42 Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
43 Chief Magdiel, Chief Iram: these [are] chiefs of Edom, in reference to their dwellings, in the land of their possession; he [is] Esau father of Edom. Magdiel, and Iram; these are the chiefs of Edom (that is, Esau, the father of Edom), according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession. Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.
