1	Then Darius the king made a decree, and they searched in the house of the books of the treasuries placed there in Babylon. 2	And was found at Achmetha, in a palace that is in the province of Media, one scroll, and thus was written in it: Memorandum:	And in Ecbatana, the citadel that is in the province of Media, a scroll was found on which this was written: “A record. 3	In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king made a decree about the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid—its height sixty cubits, and its width sixty cubits,	In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king issued a decree: Concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, let the house be rebuilt, the place where sacrifices were offered, and let its foundations be retained. Its height shall be sixty cubits and its breadth sixty cubits,	In the first year of King Cyrus, the king issued a decree concerning the temple of God in Jerusalem: Let the temple be rebuilt as a place to present sacrifices, and let its foundations be laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
4	with three rows of rolled stones, and a row of new timber, and let the expenses be paid from the house of the king.	with three layers of great stones and one layer of timber. Let the cost be paid from the royal treasury.	with three courses of large stones and one of timbers. The costs are to be paid by the royal treasury.
5	And also let the vessels of the house of God, of gold and silver, that Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple that is in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be restored and taken back to the temple that is in Jerusalem, each to its place, and put them down in the house of God.	And also let the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that is in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be restored and brought back to the temple that is in Jerusalem, each to its place. You shall put them in the house of God.”	Also, the gold and silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, are to be returned to their places in the temple in Jerusalem; they are to be deposited in the house of God.
6	Now: Tattenai the governor beyond the river, Shethar-bozenai, and your companions, the Apharsachites who are beyond the River: Be far away from there.	“Now therefore, Tattenai, governor of the province Beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and your associates the governors who are in the province Beyond the River, keep away.	Now then, Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and you other officials of that province, stay away from there.
7	Leave alone the work of this house of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God on its site.	Let the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site.	Do not interfere with the work on this temple of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the Jewish elders rebuild this house of God on its site.
8	And a decree is made by me for what it is that you⁺ shall do for the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: Of the riches of the king that are of the tribute beyond the river, let the expense be paid diligently and given to these men, so that they are not hindered.	Moreover, I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God. The cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River.	Moreover, I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God: Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury, from the revenues of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop.
9	And what they need, whether sons of bulls, or rams, or lambs for burnt offerings to the God of the heavens, wheat, salt, wine, or oil, according to the word of the priests who are in Jerusalem, let it be given to them day by day, that is without neglect,	And whatever is needed—bulls, rams, or sheep for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, or oil, as the priests at Jerusalem require—let that be given to them day by day without fail,	Whatever is needed—young bulls, rams, male lambs for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and olive oil, as requested by the priests in Jerusalem—must be given them daily without fail,
10	that they may offer sacrifice of sweet aroma to the God of the heavens and pray for the life of the king and his sons.	that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king and his sons.	so that they may offer sacrifices pleasing to the God of heaven and pray for the well-being of the king and his sons.
11	And from me is set a decree that any man who changes this command, let a timber be pulled from his house and raised up, and let him be hanged on it, and let his house be made a dunghill because of this.	Also I make a decree that if anyone alters this edict, a beam shall be pulled out of his house, and he shall be impaled on it, and his house shall be made a dunghill.	Furthermore, I decree that if anyone defies this edict, a beam is to be pulled from their house and they are to be impaled on it. And for this crime their house is to be made a pile of rubble.
12	And may the God who caused His name to dwell there destroy any king or people who put their hand to alter it, or to destroy this house of God that is in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have set a decree; let it diligently be done.	May the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow any king or people who shall put out a hand to alter this, or to destroy this house of God that is in Jerusalem. I Darius make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.”	May God, who has caused his Name to dwell there, overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to change this decree or to destroy this temple in Jerusalem. I Darius have decreed it. Let it be carried out with diligence.
13	Then Tattenai the governor beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king had sent, thus did diligently.	Then, according to the word sent by Darius the king, Tattenai, the governor of the province Beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and their associates did with all diligence what Darius the king had ordered.	Then, because of the decree King Darius had sent, Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates carried it out with diligence.
14	And the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah son of Iddo. And they built and finished it by the decree of the God of Israel, and by the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.	And the elders of the Jews built and prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They finished their building by decree of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes king of Persia;	So the elders of the Jews continued to build and prosper under the preaching of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, a descendant of Iddo. They finished building the temple according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus, Darius and Artaxerxes, kings of Persia.
15	And this temple was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.	and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.	The temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.
16	And the sons of Israel made—and the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the sons of the captivity—the dedication of this house of God with joy.	And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy.	Then the people of Israel—the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles—celebrated the dedication of the house of God with joy.
17	And they offered sacrifices for the dedication of this house of God, a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and twelve male goats as a sin offering for all Israel, by the number of the tribes of Israel.	They offered at the dedication of this house of God 100 bulls, 200 rams, 400 lambs, and as a sin offering for all Israel 12 male goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.	For the dedication of this house of God they offered a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred male lambs and, as a sin offering for all Israel, twelve male goats, one for each of the tribes of Israel.
18	And they assigned the priests in their divisions, and Levites in their groups, over the service of God that is in Jerusalem, as it is written in the Book of Moses.	And they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God at Jerusalem, as it is written in the Book of Moses.	And they installed the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their groups for the service of God at Jerusalem, according to what is written in the Book of Moses.
19	And the sons of the captivity kept the Passover on the fourteenth of the first month.	On the fourteenth day of the first month, the returned exiles kept the Passover.	On the fourteenth day of the first month, the exiles celebrated the Passover.
20	For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves as one; all of them were pure. And they slaughtered the Passover for all the sons of the captivity, and for their brothers the priests, and for themselves.	For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were clean. So they slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the returned exiles, for their fellow priests, and for themselves.	The priests and Levites had purified themselves and were all ceremonially clean. The Levites slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the exiles, for their relatives the priests and for themselves.
21	And the sons of Israel who had returned from the captivity, with all who had separated themselves from the filth of the peoples of the land to them, to seek YHWH, God of Israel, ate together,	It was eaten by the people of Israel who had returned from exile, and also by every one who had joined them and separated himself from the uncleanness of the peoples of the land to worship the LORD, the God of Israel.	So the Israelites who had returned from the exile ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the unclean practices of their Gentile neighbors in order to seek the LORD, the God of Israel.
22	and they kept the Feast of the Unleavened seven days with joy, for YHWH had made them joyful and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria toward them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.	And they kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days with joy, for the LORD had made them joyful and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, so that he aided them in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.	For seven days they celebrated with joy the Festival of Unleavened Bread, because the LORD had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.
