1 And Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, [which is] the ninth [hour]; Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
2 and a certain man who was lame from his mother's womb was being carried, whom they placed every day at the gate of the temple called Beautiful, to ask alms of those who were going into the temple; And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3 who, seeing Peter and John about to enter into the temple, asked to receive alms. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4 And Peter, looking stedfastly upon him with John, said, Look on us. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”
5 And he gave heed to them, expecting to receive something from them. And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 But Peter said, Silver and gold I have not; but what I have, this give I to thee: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazaraean rise up and walk. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
7 And having taken hold of him [by] the right hand he raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones were made strong. And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
8 And leaping up he stood and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God; And all the people saw him walking and praising God, When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 and they recognised him, that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11 And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico which is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.
12 And Peter, seeing it, answered the people, Men of Israel, why are ye astonished at this? or why do ye gaze on us as if we had by our own power or piety made him to walk? And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
13 The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged that he should be let go. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
14 But ye denied the holy and righteous one, and asked that a man [that was] a murderer should be granted to you; But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
15 but the originator of life ye slew, whom God raised from among [the] dead, whereof we are witnesses. and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
16 And, by faith in his name, his name has made this [man] strong whom ye behold and know; and the faith which is by him has given him this complete soundness in the presence of you all. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
17 And now, brethren, I know that ye did it in ignorance, as also your rulers; “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.
18 but God has thus fulfilled what he had announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.
19 Repent therefore and be converted, for the blotting out of your sins, so that times of refreshing may come from [the] presence of the Lord, Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
20 and he may send Jesus Christ, who was foreordained for you, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
21 whom heaven indeed must receive till [the] times of [the] restoring of all things, of which God has spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets since time began. whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
22 Moses indeed said, A prophet shall [the] Lord your God raise up to you out of your brethren like me: him shall ye hear in everything whatsoever he shall say to you. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.
23 And it shall be that whatsoever soul shall not hear that prophet shall be destroyed from among the people. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24 And indeed all the prophets from Samuel and those in succession after [him], as many as have spoken, have announced also these days. And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days.
25 Ye are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God appointed to our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’
26 To you first God, having raised up his servant, has sent him, blessing you in turning each one [of you] from your wickedness. God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
