1 And concerning the spiritual things, brothers, I do not wish you to be ignorant; Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 you have known that you were nations, being carried away as you were led to the mute idols; You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 for this reason, I give you to understand that no one, speaking in the Spirit of God, says Jesus [is] accursed, and no one is able to say Jesus [is] LORD, except in the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 And there are diversities of gifts, and the same Spirit; Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 and there are diversities of ministries, and the same Lord; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 and there are diversities of workings, and it is the same God—who is working all in all. and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 And to each has been given the manifestation of the Spirit for profit; To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 for to one through the Spirit has been given a word of wisdom, and to another a word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 and to another faith in the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healings in the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 and to another in-workings of mighty deeds; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; and to another [various] kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 and the one and the same Spirit works all these, dividing to each individually as He intends. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
12 For even as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the one body, being many, are one body, so also [is] the Christ, For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
13 for also in one Spirit we were all immersed into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether servants or freemen, and all were made to drink one Spirit, For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14 for also the body is not one member, but many. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 If the foot may say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it not, because of this, not of the body? If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
16 And if the ear may say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it not, because of this, not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
17 If the whole body [were] an eye, where the hearing? If the whole hearing, where the smelling? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 And now, God set the members, each one of them in the body, according as He willed, But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19 and if all were one member, where [is] the body? If all were a single member, where would the body be? If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 And now, indeed, [are] many members, but one body; As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 and an eye is not able to say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”
22 But much more the members of the body seeming to be weaker are necessary, On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23 and those that we think to be less honorable of the body, around these we put more abundant honor, and our unseemly things have more abundant seemliness, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24 and our seemly things have no need; but God tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to the lacking part, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same anxiety for one another, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
26 and whether one member suffers, all the members suffer with [it], or one member is glorified, all the members rejoice with [it]; If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 and you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
28 And some, indeed, God set in the Assembly: first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, afterward powers, afterward gifts of healings, helpings, governings, various kinds of tongues. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
29 [Are] all apostles? [Are] all prophets? [Are] all teachers? [Are] all powers? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
30 [Do] all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 And earnestly desire the better gifts; and yet I show to you a far [more] excelling way: But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
