1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I don't want you to be ignorant. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 You know that when you were unbelievers, you were enticed and led astray to worship idols that couldn't even speak. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 For this reason I want you to be aware that no one who is speaking by God's Spirit can say, |Jesus is cursed,| and no one can say, |Jesus is Lord,| except by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 and there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord. and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 There are varieties of results, but it is the same God who produces all the results in everyone. and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 To each person has been given the ability to manifest the Spirit for the common good. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one has been given a message of wisdom by the Spirit; to another the ability to speak with knowledge according to the same Spirit; For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous results; to another prophecy; to another the ability to distinguish between spirits; to another various kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages. to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit produces all these results and gives what he wants to each person. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
12 For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, form a single body, so it is with the Messiah. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
13 For by one Spirit all of us—Jews and Greeks, slaves and free—were baptized into one body and were all privileged to drink from one Spirit. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14 For the body does not consist of only one part, but of many. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 If the foot says, |Since I'm not a hand, I'm not part of the body,| that does not make it any less a part of the body, does it? If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
16 And if the ear says, |Since I'm not an eye, I'm not part of the body,| that does not make it any less a part of the body, does it? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 But now God has arranged the parts, every one of them, in the body according to his plan. But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19 Now if all of it were one part, there wouldn't be a body, would there? If all were a single member, where would the body be? If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 So there are many parts, but one body. As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, |I don't need you,| or the head to the feet, |I don't need you.| The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”

24 However, our attractive parts don't need this. But God has put the body together and has given special honor to the parts that lack it, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. 27 Now you are the Messiah's body and individual parts of it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
28 God has appointed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then those who perform miracles, those who have gifts of healing, those who help others, administrators, and those who speak various kinds of languages. 31 Keep on desiring the better gifts. And now I will show you the best way of all. But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
