Psalm 139
NLT Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew International Version
O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.1For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.
You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.4Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.
You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.5You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!7Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.8If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,9If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.10even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—11If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.12even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.16Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!17How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand-- when I awake, I am still with you.
O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers!19If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
They blaspheme you; your enemies misuse your name.20They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
O LORD, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?21Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies.22I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
