Psalm 31
NKJV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew International Version
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness.1For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me.2Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.3Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength.4Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.5Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities,7I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.8You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body!9Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.
For my life is spent with grief, And my years with sighing; My strength fails because of my iniquity, And my bones waste away.10My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
I am a reproach among all my enemies, But especially among my neighbors, And am repulsive to my acquaintances; Those who see me outside flee from me.11Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.
I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.12I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life.13For I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side!" They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”14But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.15My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.
Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies’ sake.16Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
Do not let me be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon You; Let the wicked be ashamed; Let them be silent in the grave.17Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.
Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.18Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.
Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!19How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.20In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, For He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city!21Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.
For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You.22In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person.23Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full.
Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.24Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
