Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand.1David again assembled all the fit young men in Israel: thirty thousand.
And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the LORD of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.2He and all his troops set out to bring the ark of God from Baale-judah. The ark bears the Name, the name of the LORD of Armies who is enthroned between the cherubim.
So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.3They set the ark of God on a new cart and transported it from Abinadab's house, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart
And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark.4and brought it with the ark of God from Abinadab's house on the hill. Ahio walked in front of the ark.
Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.5David and the whole house of Israel were dancing before the LORD with all kinds of fir wood instruments, lyres, harps, tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals.
And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.6When they came to Nacon's threshing floor, Uzzah reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it because the oxen had stumbled.
Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.7Then the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him dead on the spot for his irreverence, and he died there next to the ark of God.
And David became angry because of the LORD’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day.8David was angry because of the LORD's outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place Outburst Against Uzzah, as it is today.
David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the LORD come to me?”9David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?"
So David would not move the ark of the LORD with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.10So he was not willing to bring the ark of the LORD to the city of David; instead, he diverted it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath.
The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.11The ark of the LORD remained in his house three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his whole family.
Now it was told King David, saying, “The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.12It was reported to King David: "The LORD has blessed Obed-edom's family and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God." So David went and had the ark of God brought up from Obed-edom's house to the city of David with rejoicing.
And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep.13When those carrying the ark of the LORD advanced six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.
Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.14David was dancing with all his might before the LORD wearing a linen ephod.
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.15He and the whole house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of the ram's horn.
Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.16As the ark of the LORD was entering the city of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.
So they brought the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.17They brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in the LORD's presence.
And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.18When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Armies.
Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house.19Then he distributed a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake to each one in the entire Israelite community, both men and women. Then all the people went home.
Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”20When David returned home to bless his household, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him. "How the king of Israel honored himself today!" she said. "He exposed himself today in the sight of the slave girls of his subjects like a vulgar person would expose himself."
So David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD.21David replied to Michal, "It was before the LORD who chose me over your father and his whole family to appoint me ruler over the LORD's people Israel. I will dance before the LORD,
And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”22and I will dishonor myself and humble myself even more. However, by the slave girls you spoke about, I will be honored."
Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.23And Saul's daughter Michal had no child to the day of her death.
