New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime. | 1This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Moab, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because he burned to lime the bones of Edom’s king. |
But I will send a fire upon Moab, And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; Moab shall die with tumult, With shouting and trumpet sound. | 2So I will send fire against Moab to consume the citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die in tumult, amid war cries and the sound of the ram’s horn. |
And I will cut off the judge from its midst, And slay all its princes with him,” Says the LORD. | 3I will cut off the ruler of Moab and kill all the officials with him,” says the LORD. |
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they have despised the law of the LORD, And have not kept His commandments. Their lies lead them astray, Lies which their fathers followed. | 4This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep His statutes; they are led astray by the lies in which their fathers walked. |
But I will send a fire upon Judah, And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.” | 5So I will send fire upon Judah to consume the citadels of Jerusalem.” |
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of sandals. | 6This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Israel, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals. |
They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name. | 7They trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the earth; they push the needy out of their way. A man and his father have relations with the same girl and so profane My holy name. |
They lie down by every altar on clothes taken in pledge, And drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god. | 8They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. And in the house of their God, they drink wine obtained through fines. |
“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Whose height was like the height of the cedars, And he was as strong as the oaks; Yet I destroyed his fruit above And his roots beneath. | 9Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, though his height was like that of the cedars, and he was as strong as the oaks. Yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below. |
Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And led you forty years through the wilderness, To possess the land of the Amorite. | 10And I brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness, that you might take possession of the land of the Amorite. |
I raised up some of your sons as prophets, And some of your young men as Nazirites. Is it not so, O you children of Israel?” Says the LORD. | 11I raised up prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Is this not true, O children of Israel?” declares the LORD. |
“But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, And commanded the prophets saying, ‘Do not prophesy!’ | 12“But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy. |
“Behold, I am weighed down by you, As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down. | 13Behold, I am about to crush you in your place as with a cart full of grain. |
Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself; | 14Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life. |
He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself. | 15The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet of foot will not escape, and the horseman will not save his life. |
The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day,” Says the LORD. | 16Even the bravest of mighty men will flee naked on that day,” declares the LORD. |
