| 1Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. | 1You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. |
| 2Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! |
| 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. | 3Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! |
| 4For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. | 4For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. |
| 5The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. | 5The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. |

| 15he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. | 15He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. |
| 16No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. | 16No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. |
| 17A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. | 17A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. |
| 18But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, | 18Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness |
| 19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. | 19by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. |
| 20We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. | 20We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. |
