New International Version | International Standard Version |
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. | 1The one who lives in the shelter of the Most High, who rests in the shadow of the Almighty, |
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." | 2will say to the LORD, "You are my refuge, my fortress, and my God in whom I trust!" |
Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. | 3He will surely deliver you from the hunter's snare and from the destructive plague. |
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. | 4With his feathers he will cover you, under his wings you will find safety. His truth is your shield and armor. |
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, | 5You need not fear terror that stalks in the night, the arrow that flies in the day, |
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. | 6plague that strikes in the darkness, or calamity that destroys at noon. |
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. | 7If a thousand fall at your side or ten thousand at your right hand, it will not overcome you. |
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. | 8Only observe it with your eyes, and you will see how the wicked are paid back. |
If you say, "The LORD is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling, | 9"LORD, you are my refuge!" Because you chose the Most High as your dwelling place, |
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. | 10no evil will fall upon you, and no affliction will approach your tent, |
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; | 11for he will command his angels to protect you in all your ways. |
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. | 12With their hands they will lift you up so you will not trip over a stone. |
You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. | 13You will stomp on lions and snakes; you will trample young lions and serpents. |
"Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. | 14Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. |
He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. | 15When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him. |
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation." | 16I will satisfy him with long life; I will show him my deliverance. |
