NET Bible | New Living Translation |
A prayer of David. Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. | 1Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. |
I say to the LORD, "You are the Lord, my only source of well-being." | 2I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” |
As for God's chosen people who are in the land, and the leading officials I admired so much-- | 3The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! |
their troubles multiply, they desire other gods. I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, nor will I make vows in the name of their gods. | 4Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods. |
LORD, you give me stability and prosperity; you make my future secure. | 5LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. |
It is as if I have been given fertile fields or received a beautiful tract of land. | 6The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! |
I will praise the LORD who guides me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn. | 7I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. |
I constantly trust in the LORD; because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended. | 8I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. |
So my heart rejoices and I am happy; My life is safe. | 9No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. |
You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit. | 10For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. |
You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight. | 11You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. |
