A prayer of David. Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. | 1Michtam of David. Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. |
I say to the LORD, "You are the Lord, my only source of well-being." | 2O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; |
As for God's chosen people who are in the land, and the leading officials I admired so much-- | 3But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. |
their troubles multiply, they desire other gods. I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, nor will I make vows in the name of their gods. | 4Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. |
LORD, you give me stability and prosperity; you make my future secure. | 5The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. |
It is as if I have been given fertile fields or received a beautiful tract of land. | 6The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. |
I will praise the LORD who guides me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn. | 7I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. |
I constantly trust in the LORD; because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended. | 8I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. |
So my heart rejoices and I am happy; My life is safe. | 9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. |
You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit. | 10For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. |
You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight. | 11Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. |
