| 2"Speak to the Israelites and tell them, 'I am the LORD your God! | 2Speak to the Israelites and tell them: I am Yahweh your God. |
| 3You must not do as they do in the land of Egypt where you have been living, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan into which I am about to bring you; you must not walk in their statutes. | 3Do not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, or follow the practices of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. You must not follow their customs. |
| 4You must observe my regulations and you must be sure to walk in my statutes. I am the LORD your God. | 4You are to practice My ordinances and you are to keep My statutes by following them; I am Yahweh your God. |
| 5So you must keep my statutes and my regulations; anyone who does so will live by keeping them. I am the LORD. | 5Keep My statutes and ordinances; a person will live if he does them. I am Yahweh." |
| 6"'No man is to approach any close relative to have sexual intercourse with her. I am the LORD. | 6You are not to come near any close relative for sexual intercourse; I am Yahweh. |
| 7You must not expose your father's nakedness by having sexual intercourse with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have intercourse with her. | 7You are not to shame your father by having sex with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual intercourse with her. |
| 8You must not have sexual intercourse with your father's wife; she is your father's nakedness. | 8You are not to have sex with your father's wife; it will shame your father. |

| 17You must not have sexual intercourse with both a woman and her daughter; you must not take as wife either her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter to have intercourse with them. You are not to marry her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter and have sex with her. They are close relatives; it is depraved. |

| 20You must not have sexual intercourse with the wife of your fellow citizen to become unclean with her. | 20You are not to have sexual intercourse with your neighbor's wife, defiling yourself with her." |
| 21You must not give any of your children as an offering to Molech, so that you do not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD! | 21You are not to make any of your children pass through the fire to Molech. Do not profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh. |
| 22You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman; it is a detestable act. | 22You are not to sleep with a man as with a woman; it is detestable. |
| 23You must not have sexual intercourse with any animal to become defiled with it, and a woman must not stand before an animal to have sexual intercourse with it; it is a perversion. | 23You are not to have sexual intercourse with any animal, defiling yourself with it; a woman is not to present herself to an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion." |
| 24"'Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you have been defiled with all these things. | 24Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things. |
| 25Therefore the land has become unclean and I have brought the punishment for its iniquity upon it, so that the land has vomited out its inhabitants. | 25The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its sin, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants. |
| 26You yourselves must obey my statutes and my regulations and must not do any of these abominations, both the native citizen and the resident foreigner in your midst, | 26But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances. You must not commit any of these detestable things--not the native or the foreigner who lives among you. |
| 27for the people who were in the land before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become unclean. | 27For the men who were in the land prior to you have committed all these detestable things, and the land has become defiled. |
| 28So do not make the land vomit you out because you defile it just as it has vomited out the nations that were before you. | 28If you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it has vomited out the nations that were before you. |
| 29For if anyone does any of these abominations, the persons who do them will be cut off from the midst of their people. | 29Any person who does any of these detestable practices must be cut off from his people. |
| 30You must obey my charge to not practice any of the abominable statutes that have been done before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.'" | 30You must keep My instruction to not do any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them; I am Yahweh your God." |
