And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." | 3During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” |
But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" | 4But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” |
Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, | 5Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, |
and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU'; and 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'" | 6and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’ ” |
Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'" | 7Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God.’ ” |
Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; | 8Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. |

Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'" | 10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him.’ ” |

"THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESS SAW A GREAT LIGHT, AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH, UPON THEM A LIGHT DAWNED." | 16the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” |

And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." | 19Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” |
Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. | 20And they left their nets at once and followed him. |
