It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. | 1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. |
Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. | 2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. |
And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. | 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. |
You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. | 4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. |
For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. | 5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. |
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. | 6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. |
You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? | 7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? |
This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. | 8This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. |
A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. | 9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. |
I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. | 10I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. |
But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished. | 11And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. |
I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves. | 12I would they were even cut off which trouble you. |
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. | 13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. |
For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." | 14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. | 15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. |
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. | 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. |
For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. | 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. |
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. | 18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. |
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, | 19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, |
idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, | 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, |
envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, | 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, |
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. | 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. |
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. | 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. |
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. | 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. |
Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. | 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. |
