| 1It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. | 1For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery. |
| 2Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. | 2Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all! |
| 3And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. | 3And I testify again to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. |
| 4You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. | 4You who are trying to be declared righteous by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace! |
| 5For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. | 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness. |
| 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. | 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight--the only thing that matters is faith working through love. |
| 7You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? | 7You were running well; who prevented you from obeying the truth? |
| 8This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. | 8This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you! |
| 9A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. | 9A little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise! |
| 10I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. | 10I am confident in the Lord that you will accept no other view. But the one who is confusing you will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. |
| 11But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished. | 11Now, brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. |
| 12I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves. | 12I wish those agitators would go so far as to castrate themselves! |
| 13For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. | 13For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another. |
| 14For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." | 14For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely, "You must love your neighbor as yourself." |
| 15But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. | 15However, if you continually bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another. |
| 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. | 16But I say, live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. |
| 17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. | 17For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do what you want. |

I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God! |
