To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. | 1In you, LORD, I have taken refuge. Let me never be ashamed. Because you are righteous, deliver me! |
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. | 2Listen to me, and deliver me quickly. Become a rock of safety for me, a fortified citadel to deliver me; |
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. | 3For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name guide me and lead me. |
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. | 4Rescue me from the net that they concealed to trap me; for you are my strength. |
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. | 5Into your hands I commit my spirit; for you have redeemed me, LORD God of truth. |
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. | 6I despise those who trust vain idols; but I have trusted in the LORD. |
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; | 7I will rejoice and be glad in your gracious love, for you see my affliction and take note that my soul is distressed. |
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room. | 8You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy, but you have set my feet in a sturdy place. |
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. | 9Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes have been consumed by my grief along with my soul and my body. |
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. | 10My life is consumed by sorrow, my years with groaning. My strength has faltered because of my iniquity; my bones have been consumed. |
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me. | 11I have become an object of reproach to all my enemies, especially to my neighbors. I have become an object of fear to my friends, and whoever sees me outside runs away from me. |
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. | 12Like a dead man, I am forgotten in their thoughts — like broken pottery. |
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. | 13I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life. |
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. | 14But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God." |
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. | 15My times are in your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and from those who pursue me. |
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake. | 16May your face shine on your servant; in your gracious love, deliver me. |
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. | 17Let me not be ashamed, LORD, for I have called upon you. Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in the next life. |
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. | 18Let the lying lips be made still, especially those who speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt. |
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! | 19How great is your goodness that you have reserved for those who fear you, that you have set in place for those who take refuge in you, in the presence of the children of men. |
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. | 20You will hide them in the secret place of your presence, away from the conspiracies of men. You will hide them in your tent, away from their contentious tongues. |
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city. | 21Blessed be the LORD! In a marvelous way he demonstrated his gracious love to me, when I was in a city under siege. |
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. | 22When I said in my panic, "I have been cut off in your sight," then you surely heard the voice of my prayer in my plea to you for help. |
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. | 23Love the LORD, all his godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and repays those who act with proud motives. |
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. | 24Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. |
