And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.1The same thing happened in Iconium; they entered the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.
But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.2But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against the brothers.
Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.3So they stayed there for some time and spoke boldly in reliance on the Lord, who testified to the message of His grace by granting that signs and wonders be performed through them.
But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.4But the people of the city were divided, some siding with the Jews and some with the apostles.
And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,5When an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to assault and stone them,
They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:6they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian towns called Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding countryside.
And there they preached the gospel.7And there they kept evangelizing.
And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:8In Lystra a man without strength in his feet, lame from birth, and who had never walked, sat
The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,9and heard Paul speaking. After observing him closely and seeing that he had faith to be healed,
Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.10Paul said in a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" And he jumped up and started to walk around.
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.11When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in the form of men!"
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.12And they started to call Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the main speaker.
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.13Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the town, brought oxen and garlands to the gates. He, with the crowds, intended to offer sacrifice.
Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,14The apostles Barnabas and Paul tore their robes when they heard this and rushed into the crowd, shouting:"
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:15Men! Why are you doing these things? We are men also, with the same nature as you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.
Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.16In past generations He allowed all the nations to go their own way,
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.17although He did not leave Himself without a witness, since He did what is good by giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons and satisfying your hearts with food and happiness."
And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.18Even though they said these things, they barely stopped the crowds from sacrificing to them.
And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.19Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and when they had won over the crowds and stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead.
Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.20After the disciples surrounded him, he got up and went into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.
And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,21After they had evangelized that town and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.22strengthening the disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith and by telling them, "It is necessary to pass through many troubles on our way into the kingdom of God."
And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.23When they had appointed elders in every church and prayed with fasting, they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.24Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.
And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:25After they spoke the message in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.26From there they sailed back to Antioch where they had been entrusted to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.
And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.27After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.
And there they abode long time with the disciples.28And they spent a considerable time with the disciples.
