He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. | 1The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. |
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. | 2I will say concerning the LORD, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust: |
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. | 3He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, from the destructive plague. |
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. | 4He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. |
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; | 5You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, |
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. | 6the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon. |
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. | 7Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, the pestilence will not reach you. |
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. | 8You will only see it with your eyes and witness the punishment of the wicked. |
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; | 9Because you have made the LORD--my refuge, the Most High--your dwelling place, |
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. | 10no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent. |
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. | 11For he will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. |
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. | 12They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. |
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. | 13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent. |
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. | 14Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. |
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. | 15When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. |
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. | 16I will satisfy him with a long life and show him my salvation. |
