In you, LORD, I have taken refuge. Let me never be ashamed. Because you are righteous, deliver me!1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; save me by Your righteousness.
Listen to me, and deliver me quickly. Become a rock of safety for me, a fortified citadel to deliver me;2Incline Your ear to me; come quickly to my rescue. Be my rock of refuge, the stronghold of my deliverance.
For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name guide me and lead me.3For You are my rock and my fortress; lead me and guide me for the sake of Your name.
Rescue me from the net that they concealed to trap me; for you are my strength.4You free me from the net laid out for me, for You are my refuge.
Into your hands I commit my spirit; for you have redeemed me, LORD God of truth.5Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth.
I despise those who trust vain idols; but I have trusted in the LORD.6I hate those who cling to worthless idols, but in the LORD I trust.
I will rejoice and be glad in your gracious love, for you see my affliction and take note that my soul is distressed.7I will be glad and rejoice in Your loving devotion, for You have seen my affliction; You have known the anguish of my soul.
You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy, but you have set my feet in a sturdy place.8You have not delivered me to the enemy; You have set my feet in the open.
Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes have been consumed by my grief along with my soul and my body.9Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes fail from sorrow, my soul and body as well.
My life is consumed by sorrow, my years with groaning. My strength has faltered because of my iniquity; my bones have been consumed.10For my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength, and my bones are wasting away.
I have become an object of reproach to all my enemies, especially to my neighbors. I have become an object of fear to my friends, and whoever sees me outside runs away from me.11Among all my enemies I am a disgrace, and among my neighbors even more. I am dreaded by my friends—they flee when they see me on the street.
Like a dead man, I am forgotten in their thoughts — like broken pottery.12I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind. I am like a broken vessel.
I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life.13For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side. They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God."14But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and from those who pursue me.15My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.
May your face shine on your servant; in your gracious love, deliver me.16Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion.
Let me not be ashamed, LORD, for I have called upon you. Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in the next life. 17O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in Sheol.
Let the lying lips be made still, especially those who speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.18May lying lips be silenced—lips that speak with arrogance against the righteous, full of pride and contempt.
How great is your goodness that you have reserved for those who fear you, that you have set in place for those who take refuge in you, in the presence of the children of men.19How great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have bestowed before the sons of men on those who take refuge in You!
You will hide them in the secret place of your presence, away from the conspiracies of men. You will hide them in your tent, away from their contentious tongues.20You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the schemes of men. You conceal them in Your shelter from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD! In a marvelous way he demonstrated his gracious love to me, when I was in a city under siege.21Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His loving devotion in a city under siege.
When I said in my panic, "I have been cut off in your sight," then you surely heard the voice of my prayer in my plea to you for help.22In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my plea for mercy when I called to You for help.
Love the LORD, all his godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and repays those who act with proud motives.23Love the LORD, all His saints. The LORD preserves the faithful, but fully repays the arrogant.
Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD.24Be strong and courageous, all you who hope in the LORD.
