Salmon fathered Boaz by Rahab, Boaz fathered Obed by Ruth, Obed fathered Jesse, 5And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
and Jesse fathered King David. Then David fathered Solomon by Uriah's wife, 6And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
Solomon fathered Rehoboam, Rehoboam fathered Abijah, Abijah fathered Asa, 7And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
Asa fathered Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat fathered Joram, Joram fathered Uzziah, 8And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
Uzziah fathered Jotham, Jotham fathered Ahaz, Ahaz fathered Hezekiah, 9And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
Hezekiah fathered Manasseh, Manasseh fathered Amon, Amon fathered Josiah, 10And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
and Josiah fathered Jechoniah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. 11And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
Then after the exile to Babylon Jechoniah fathered Shealtiel, Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel, 12And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
Zerubbabel fathered Abiud, Abiud fathered Eliakim, Eliakim fathered Azor, 13And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
Azor fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Achim, Achim fathered Eliud, 14And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
Eliud fathered Eleazar, Eleazar fathered Matthan, Matthan fathered Jacob, 15And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
and Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary, who gave birth to Jesus who is called the Messiah. 16And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David were 14 generations; and from David until the exile to Babylon, 14 generations; and from the exile to Babylon until the Messiah, 14 generations. 17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly. 19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit.20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated "God is with us." 23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
When Joseph got up from sleeping, he did as the Lord's angel had commanded him. He married her24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
but did not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son. And he named Him Jesus. 25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
