After this, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from Philistine control. 1Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
He also defeated the Moabites, and they became David's subjects and brought tribute. 2And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.
David also defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah at Hamath when he went to establish his control at the Euphrates River. 3And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
David captured 1,000 chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers from him, hamstrung all the horses, and kept 100 chariots. 4And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.
When the Arameans of Damascus came to assist King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 Aramean men. 5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
Then he placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became David's subjects and brought tribute. The LORD made David victorious wherever he went. 6Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.
David took the gold shields carried by Hadadezer's officers and brought them to Jerusalem. 7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
From Tibhath and Cun, Hadadezer's cities, David also took huge quantities of bronze, from which Solomon made the bronze reservoir, the pillars, and the bronze articles. 8Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
When King Tou of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of King Hadadezer of Zobah, 9Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him because David had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Tou and Hadadezer had fought many wars. Hadoram brought all kinds of gold, silver, and bronze items. 10He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to inquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
King David also dedicated these to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all the nations--from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and the Amalekites. 11Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.
He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. The LORD made David victorious wherever he went. 13And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.
So David reigned over all Israel, administering justice and righteousness for all his people. 14So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was court historian; 15And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.
Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was court secretary; 16And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were the chief officials at the king's side. 17And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
