Hosea 7
HCSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
when I heal Israel, the sins of Ephraim and the crimes of Samaria will be exposed. For they practice fraud; a thief breaks in; a raiding party pillages outside. 1when I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of Samaria, for they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside.
But they never consider that I remember all their evil. Now their sins are all around them; they are right in front of My face. 2But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.
They please the king with their evil, the princes with their lies. 3By their evil they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery.
All of them commit adultery; they are like an oven heated by a baker who stops stirring the fire from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened. 4They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven whose baker ceases to stir the fire, from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.
On the day of our king, the princes are sick with the heat of wine-- there is a conspiracy with traitors. 5On the day of our king, the princes became sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with mockers.
For they--their hearts like an oven-- draw him into their oven. Their anger smolders all night; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. 6For with hearts like an oven they approach their intrigue; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.
All of them are as hot as an oven, and they consume their rulers. All their kings fall; not one of them calls on Me. 7All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers. All their kings have fallen, and none of them calls upon me.
Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle. 8Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Foreigners consume his strength, but he does not notice. Even his hair is streaked with gray, but he does not notice. 9Strangers devour his strength, and he knows it not; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, and he knows it not.
Israel's arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to Yahweh their God, and for all this, they do not seek Him. 10The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him, for all this.
So Ephraim has become like a silly, senseless dove; they call to Egypt, and they go to Assyria. 11Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense, calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.
As they are going, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the sky. I will discipline them in accordance with the news that reaches their assembly. 12As they go, I will spread over them my net; I will bring them down like birds of the heavens; I will discipline them according to the report made to their congregation.
Woe to them, for they fled from Me; destruction to them, for they rebelled against Me! Though I want to redeem them, they speak lies against Me. 13Woe to them, for they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me! I would redeem them, but they speak lies against me.
They do not cry to Me from their hearts; rather, they wail on their beds. They slash themselves for grain and new wine; they turn away from Me. 14They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves; they rebel against me.
I trained and strengthened their arms, but they plot evil against Me. 15Although I trained and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against me.
They turn, but not to what is above; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of the cursing of their tongue. They will be ridiculed for this in the land of Egypt. 16They return, but not upward; they are like a treacherous bow; their princes shall fall by the sword because of the insolence of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
