Psalm 31
ESV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew International Version
In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!1For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!2Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me;3Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.4Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.5Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul,7I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place.8You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.9Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.
For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.10My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.11Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.
I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.12I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.13For I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side!" They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”14But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!15My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.
Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!16Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol.17Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.
Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.18Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.
Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!19How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.20In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.21Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.
I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.22In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.23Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!24Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
