English Standard Version | NET Bible |
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. | 1As for you, the one who lives in the shelter of the sovereign One, and resides in the protective shadow of the mighty king-- |
I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” | 2I say this about the LORD, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust-- |
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. | 3he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter and from the destructive plague. |
He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. | 4He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall. |
You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, | 5You need not fear the terrors of the night, the arrow that flies by day, |
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. | 6the plague that comes in the darkness, or the disease that comes at noon. |
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. | 7Though a thousand may fall beside you, and a multitude on your right side, it will not reach you. |
You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. | 8Certainly you will see it with your very own eyes--you will see the wicked paid back. |
Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— | 9For you have taken refuge in the LORD, my shelter, the sovereign One. |
no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. | 10No harm will overtake you; no illness will come near your home. |
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. | 11For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do. |
On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. | 12They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone. |
You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. | 13You will subdue a lion and a snake; you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent. |
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. | 14The LORD says, "Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me. |
When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. | 15When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor. |
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” | 16I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation. |
