O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out day and night before you. | 1LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night. |
Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry! | 2May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry. |
For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. | 3For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol. |
I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength, | 4I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength, |
like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand. | 5abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, and who are cut off from your care. |
You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the regions dark and deep. | 6You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths. |
Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. Selah | 7Your wrath weighs heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. Selah |
You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape; | 8You have distanced my friends from me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out. |
my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you. | 9My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you. |
Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah | 10Do you work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise you? Selah |
Is your steadfast love declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? | 11Will your faithful love be declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon? |
Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | 12Will your wonders be known in the darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion? |
But I, O LORD, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you. | 13But I call to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets you. |
O LORD, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me? | 14LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face from me? |
Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am helpless. | 15From my youth, I have been suffering and near death. I suffer your horrors; I am desperate. |
Your wrath has swept over me; your dreadful assaults destroy me. | 16Your wrath sweeps over me; your terrors destroy me. |
They surround me like a flood all day long; they close in on me together. | 17They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side. |
You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness. | 18You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend. |
