| 20Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made the world's wisdom foolish? | 20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? |
| 21For since, in God's wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what is preached. | 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. |
| 22For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom, | 22For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; |
| 23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles. | 23but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, |
| 24Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, | 24but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. |
| 25because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. | 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. |
| 26Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. | 26For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; |
| 27Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. | 27but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, |
| 28God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world--what is viewed as nothing--to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, | 28and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, |
| 29so that no one may boast in his presence. | 29so that no man may boast before God. |
| 30It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us--our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, | 30But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, |
| 31in order that, as it is written: Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. | 31so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD." |
