A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choirmaster. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, the God of my salvation, day and night I cry out before You. | 1A song, a psalm written by the Korahites; for the music director; according to the machalath-leannoth style; a well-written song by Heman the Ezrachite. O LORD God who delivers me! By day I cry out and at night I pray before you. |
May my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my cry. | 2Listen to my prayer! Pay attention to my cry for help! |
For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. | 3For my life is filled with troubles and I am ready to enter Sheol. |
I am counted among those descending to the Pit. I am like a man without strength. | 4They treat me like those who descend into the grave. I am like a helpless man, |
I am forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, who are cut off from Your care. | 5adrift among the dead, like corpses lying in the grave, whom you remember no more, and who are cut off from your power. |
You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths. | 6You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, in the dark places, in the watery depths. |
Your wrath weighs heavily upon me; all Your waves have submerged me. Selah | 7Your anger bears down on me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. (Selah) |
You have removed my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them; I am confined and cannot escape. | 8You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. |
My eyes grow dim with grief. I call to You daily, O LORD; I spread out my hands to You. | 9My eyes grow weak because of oppression. I call out to you, O LORD, all day long; I spread out my hands in prayer to you. |
Do You work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise You? Selah | 10Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead? Do the departed spirits rise up and give you thanks? (Selah) |
Can Your loving devotion be proclaimed in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? | 11Is your loyal love proclaimed in the grave, or your faithfulness in the place of the dead? |
Will Your wonders be known in the darkness, or Your righteousness in the land of oblivion? | 12Are your amazing deeds experienced in the dark region, or your deliverance in the land of oblivion? |
But to You, O LORD, I cry for help; in the morning my prayer comes before You. | 13As for me, I cry out to you, O LORD; in the morning my prayer confronts you. |
Why, O LORD, do You reject me? Why do You hide Your face from me? | 14O LORD, why do you reject me, and pay no attention to me? |
From my youth I was afflicted and near death. I have borne Your terrors; I am in despair. | 15I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain. |
Your wrath has swept over me; Your terrors have destroyed me. | 16Your anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me. |
All day long they engulf me like water; they enclose me on every side. | 17They surround me like water all day long; they join forces and encircle me. |
You have removed my beloved and my friend; darkness is my closest companion. | 18You cause my friends and neighbors to keep their distance; those who know me leave me alone in the darkness. |
