“As for you, O son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. | 1"Now as for you, Son of Man, prophesy against Gog and tell him, 'This is what the Lord GOD has to say: "Watch out, Gog, you leader of the head of Meshech and of Tubal! |
I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel. | 2I'm going to turn you around, drag you along to your destruction, and bring you up from the farthest parts of the north, and carry you to the mountains of Israel. |
Then I will strike the bow from your left hand and dash down the arrows from your right hand. | 3There I will strike your bow from your left hand and your arrows from your right, causing your fall. |
On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of ravenous bird and wild beast. | 4You will collapse on the mountains of Israel, along with all of your soldiers and the nations that have accompanied you. There the raptors, vultures, and wild animals will feed on you. |
You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. | 5You will fall dead in the open fields, because I have ordered this to happen,' declares the Lord GOD. |
I will send fire on Magog and on those who dwell securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD. | 6I'm also going to incinerate Magog, along with those who are settled down and at home in the islands. That's when they'll learn that I am the LORD. |
So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. | 7I'll make my holiness and reputation known in the midst of my people Israel, and I won't let my holiness be profaned anymore. The nations will learn that I, the LORD, am holy in the midst of Israel. |
Yes, it is coming, and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD. This is the day of which I have spoken. | 8Pay attention! It's coming and will certainly happen,' declares the Lord GOD. 'This will be the day about which I've spoken!'"'" |
Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out, kindle fires, and burn up the weapons—the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. | 9"After all this happens, the people who live in the cities of Israel will be kindling fires for seven years, using small shields, large shields, bows, arrows, clubs, personal weapons, and spears to do so. |
They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will loot those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord GOD. | 10They won't need to cut down trees from the fields nor gather firewood from the forests, because they will light fires with the weapons as they plunder the plunderers and loot the looters!" declares the Lord GOD. |
And on that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog. | 11"When all of this happens, I'm going to set aside a grave site for Gog in Israel's Traveler's Valley, near the approach to the Dead Sea. She will block off everyone who tries to bypass it. There they will bury Gog, and rename the area 'Valley of Gog's Gang'. |
For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. | 12The house of Israel will be burying them for seven months in order to purify the land. |
All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD. | 13Everyone in the land will be involved in the burials, and this will serve as a reminder for them that I have glorified myself," declares the Lord GOD. |
And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to cleanse it by burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search. | 14"Men will be assigned to travel continuously throughout the land, exploring for seven full months as they go about burying the bodies that remain from the battle on the surface of the ground, so that the land may be sterilized. |
As they pass through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will set up a pillar next to it, until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon-gog. | 15As scouts go searching throughout the land, whenever they see someone's bones, they will place a sign beside the remains until the remains have been buried in the Valley of Gog's Gang. |
(Even the city will be named Hamonah.) And so they will cleanse the land. | 16They'll also name the city that is there 'Hamonah,' as they purify the land." |
And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood. | 17"Now as for you, Son of Man, this is what the Lord GOD has to say: 'Tell all of the birds and wild beasts, "Come! Gather together and participate in the sacrifice that I'm going to make for you. This great sacrifice will take place on the mountains of Israel, where you'll be eating flesh and drinking blood. |
You will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all the fattened animals of Bashan. | 18You'll eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the world's princes, drinking the blood of these rams, lambs, goats, bulls, all of them fattened as if they're from Bashan, fit for slaughter! |
At the sacrifice I am preparing, you will eat fat until you are gorged and drink blood until you are drunk. | 19You'll eat until you're fat and satiated. You'll drink blood until you're drunk from the sacrifice that I'm going to make for all of you. |
And at My table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and warriors of every kind,’ declares the Lord GOD. | 20You'll be fully satiated at my table, dining on horse flesh, horsemen, elite soldiers, and every kind of warrior," declares the Lord GOD. |
I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them. | 21I'm going to display my glory among the people, and every nation will see the judgment that I administer by my own hand among them. |
From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. | 22The house of Israel will learn that I am the LORD their God from that day forward! |
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword. | 23The nations will also learn that because of Israel's sin the house of Israel went into captivity, since they were unfaithful in their behavior toward me. As a result, I hid my presence from them, turned them over to the control of their enemies, and they died by violence. |
I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them. | 24It was because of their defilement and transgression that I treated them this way by hiding my presence from them.'" |
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name. | 25"Therefore this is what the Lord GOD has to say: 'I'm going to restore the resources of Jacob and show mercy to the entire house of Israel. I'll be zealous for my own reputation and for my holiness. |
They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them. | 26They'll forget their shame and all of their unfaithfulness by which they behaved so unfaithfully toward me. They will live on their land in confidence, not in fear. |
When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations. | 27When I bring them back from the nations and gather them together from the lands that belong to their enemies, I will demonstrate my holiness through them right in front of the eyes of the world, |
Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations. | 28and they will learn that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into exile and who gathered them back to their land. I will not leave any of them remaining in exile. |
And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.” | 29I'll no longer hide my presence from them again when I pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel,' declares the Lord GOD." |
