Berean Study Bible | English Standard Version |
Of David. Do not fret over those who do evil; do not envy those who do wrong. | 1Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! |
For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender plants. | 2For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. |
Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. | 3Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. |
Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. | 4Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. |
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it. | 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. |
He will bring forth your righteousness like the dawn, your justice like the noonday sun. | 6He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. |
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men prosper in their ways, when they carry out wicked schemes. | 7Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! |
Refrain from anger and abandon wrath; do not fret—it can only bring harm. | 8Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. |
For the evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. | 9For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land. |
Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. | 10In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there. |
But the meek will inherit the land and delight in abundant prosperity. | 11But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace. |
The wicked scheme against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them, | 12The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him, |
but the Lord laughs, seeing that their day is coming. | 13but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming. |
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. | 14The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose way is upright; |
But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. | 15their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. |
Better is the little of the righteous than the abundance of many who are wicked. | 16Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked. |
For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. | 17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. |
The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will last forever. | 18The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will remain forever; |
In the time of evil they will not be ashamed, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied. | 19they are not put to shame in evil times; in the days of famine they have abundance. |
But the wicked and enemies of the LORD will perish like the glory of the fields. They will vanish; like smoke they will fade away. | 20But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures; they vanish—like smoke they vanish away. |
The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous are gracious and giving. | 21The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives; |
Surely those He blesses will inherit the land, but the cursed will be destroyed. | 22for those blessed by the LORD shall inherit the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off. |
The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD who takes delight in his journey. | 23The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; |
Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand. | 24though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand. |
I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children begging for bread. | 25I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. |
They are ever generous and quick to lend, and their children are a blessing. | 26He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing. |
Turn away from evil and do good, so that you will abide forever. | 27Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. |
For the LORD loves justice and will not forsake His saints. They are preserved forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off. | 28For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. |
The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. | 29The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever. |
The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. | 30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. |
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter. | 31The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip. |
Though the wicked lie in wait for the righteous, and seek to slay them, | 32The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death. |
the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned under judgment. | 33The LORD will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial. |
Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will raise you up to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it. | 34Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off. |
I have seen a wicked, ruthless man flourishing like a well-rooted native tree, | 35I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree. |
yet he passed away and was no more; though I searched, he could not be found. | 36But he passed away, and behold, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found. |
Consider the blameless and observe the upright, for posterity awaits the man of peace. | 37Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. |
But the transgressors will all be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. | 38But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the future of the wicked shall be cut off. |
The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their stronghold in time of trouble. | 39The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. |
The LORD helps and delivers them; He rescues and saves them from the wicked, because they take refuge in Him. | 40The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him. |
