| 2Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. | 2Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land. | 2Each will be like a refuge from the wind And a shelter from the storm, Like streams of water in a dry country, Like the shade of a huge rock in a parched land. | 2And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. | 2Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the rain, like streams of water in a dry land and the shade of a massive rock in an arid land. |

| 4The fearful heart will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. | 4The heart of the hasty will understand and know, and the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly. | 4The mind of the hasty will discern the truth, And the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak clearly. | 4The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly. | 4The reckless mind will gain knowledge, and the stammering tongue will speak clearly and fluently. |
| 5No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected. | 5The fool will no more be called noble, nor the scoundrel said to be honorable. | 5No longer will the fool be called noble, Or the rogue be spoken of as generous. | 5The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. | 5A fool will no longer be called a noble, nor a scoundrel said to be important. |
| 6For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the LORD; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water. | 6For the fool speaks folly, and his heart is busy with iniquity, to practice ungodliness, to utter error concerning the LORD, to leave the craving of the hungry unsatisfied, and to deprive the thirsty of drink. | 6For a fool speaks nonsense, And his heart inclines toward wickedness: To practice ungodliness and to speak error against the LORD, To keep the hungry person unsatisfied And to withhold drink from the thirsty. | 6For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. | 6For a fool speaks foolishness and his mind plots iniquity. He lives in a godless way and speaks falsely about the LORD. He leaves the hungry empty and deprives the thirsty of drink. |
| 7Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just. | 7As for the scoundrel—his devices are evil; he plans wicked schemes to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right. | 7As for a rogue, his weapons are evil; He devises wicked schemes To destroy the afflicted with slander, Even though the needy one speaks what is right. | 7The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. | 7The scoundrel's weapons are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the needy with lies, even when the poor says what is right. |
| 8But the noble make noble plans, and by noble deeds they stand. | 8But he who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands. | 8But the noble man devises noble plans; And by noble plans he stands. | 8But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand. | 8But a noble person plans noble things; he stands up for noble causes. |
The Women of Jerusalem | 9You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! | 9Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech. | 9Rise up, you women who are at ease, And hear my voice; Give ear to my word, You complacent daughters. | 9Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech. | 9Stand up, you complacent women; listen to me. Pay attention to what I say, you overconfident daughters. |
| 10In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. | 10In little more than a year you will shudder, you complacent women; for the grape harvest fails, the fruit harvest will not come. | 10Within a year and a few days You will be troubled, O complacent daughters; For the vintage is ended, And the fruit gathering will not come. | 10Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come. | 10In a little more than a year you overconfident ones will shudder, for the vintage will fail and the harvest will not come. |
| 11Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your fine clothes and wrap yourselves in rags. | 11Tremble, you women who are at ease, shudder, you complacent ones; strip, and make yourselves bare, and tie sackcloth around your waist. | 11Tremble, you women who are at ease; Be troubled, you complacent daughters; Strip, undress and put sackcloth on your waist, | 11Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins. | 11Shudder, you complacent ones; tremble, you overconfident ones! Strip yourselves bare and put sackcloth around your waists. |

| 13and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers-- yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry. | 13for the soil of my people growing up in thorns and briers, yes, for all the joyous houses in the exultant city. | 13For the land of my people in which thorns and briars shall come up; Yea, for all the joyful houses and for the jubilant city. | 13Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city: | 13for the ground of my people growing thorns and briers, indeed, for every joyous house in the joyful city. |
| 14The fortress will be abandoned, the noisy city deserted; citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever, the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks, | 14For the palace is forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become dens forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks; | 14Because the palace has been abandoned, the populated city forsaken. Hill and watch-tower have become caves forever, A delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks; | 14Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks; | 14For the palace will be forsaken, the busy city abandoned. The hill and the watchtower will become barren places forever, the joy of wild donkeys, and a pasture for flocks, |
| 15till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. | 15until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest. | 15Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fertile field, And the fertile field is considered as a forest. | 15Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. | 15until the Spirit from heaven is poured out on us. Then the desert will become an orchard, and the orchard will seem like a forest. |

| 18My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. | 18My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. | 18Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places; | 18And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places; | 18Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place, in safe and secure dwellings. |
| 19Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, | 19And it will hail when the forest falls down, and the city will be utterly laid low. | 19And it will hail when the forest comes down, And the city will be utterly laid low. | 19When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place. | 19But hail will level the forest, and the city will sink into the depths. |
| 20how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free. | 20Happy are you who sow beside all waters, who let the feet of the ox and the donkey range free. | 20How blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters, Who let out freely the ox and the donkey. | 20Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth thither the feet of the ox and the ass. | 20Those who sow seed are happy beside abundant waters; they let ox and donkey range freely. |
