Parallel Chapters Out of Egypt I called my Son
(Matthew 2:13-15) 1"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. | 1When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. | 1When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son. | 1When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. | 1When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son. |
2But the more they were called, the more they went away from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. | 2The more they were called, the more they went away; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols. | 2The more they called them, The more they went from them; They kept sacrificing to the Baals And burning incense to idols. | 2As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images. | 2The more they called them, the more they departed from Me. They kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols. |
3It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them. | 3Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk; I took them up by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them. | 3Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk, I took them in My arms; But they did not know that I healed them. | 3I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them. | 3It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them in My arms, but they never knew that I healed them. |
4I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them. | 4I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them. | 4I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, And I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and fed them. | 4I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them. | 4I led them with human cords, with ropes of love. To them I was like one who eases the yoke from their jaws; I bent down to give them food. |
5"Will they not return to Egypt and will not Assyria rule over them because they refuse to repent? | 5They shall not return to the land of Egypt, but Assyria shall be their king, because they have refused to return to me. | 5They will not return to the land of Egypt; But Assyria-- he will be their king Because they refused to return to Me. | 5He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return. | 5Israel will not return to the land of Egypt and Assyria will be his king, because they refused to repent. |
6A sword will flash in their cities; it will devour their false prophets and put an end to their plans. | 6The sword shall rage against their cities, consume the bars of their gates, and devour them because of their own counsels. | 6The sword will whirl against their cities, And will demolish their gate bars And consume them because of their counsels. | 6And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels. | 6A sword will whirl through his cities; it will destroy and devour the bars of his gates, because of their schemes. |
7My people are determined to turn from me. Even though they call me God Most High, I will by no means exalt them. | 7My people are bent on turning away from me, and though they call out to the Most High, he shall not raise them up at all. | 7So My people are bent on turning from Me. Though they call them to the One on high, None at all exalts Him. | 7And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him. | 7My people are bent on turning from Me. Though they call to Him on high, He will not exalt them at all. |
God's Mercy Toward Israel 8"How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboyim? My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused. | 8How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender. | 8How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned over within Me, All My compassions are kindled. | 8How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together. | 8How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart; My compassion is stirred! |
9I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I devastate Ephraim again. For I am God, and not a man-- the Holy One among you. I will not come against their cities. | 9I will not execute my burning anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath. | 9I will not execute My fierce anger; I will not destroy Ephraim again. For I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst, And I will not come in wrath. | 9I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city. | 9I will not vent the full fury of My anger; I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim. For I am God and not man, the Holy One among you; I will not come in rage. |
10They will follow the LORD; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west. | 10They shall go after the LORD; he will roar like a lion; when he roars, his children shall come trembling from the west; | 10They will walk after the LORD, He will roar like a lion; Indeed He will roar And His sons will come trembling from the west. | 10They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west. | 10They will follow the LORD; He will roar like a lion. When He roars, His children will come trembling from the west. |
11They will come from Egypt, trembling like sparrows, from Assyria, fluttering like doves. I will settle them in their homes," declares the LORD. | 11they shall come trembling like birds from Egypt, and like doves from the land of Assyria, and I will return them to their homes, declares the LORD. | 11They will come trembling like birds from Egypt And like doves from the land of Assyria; And I will settle them in their houses, declares the LORD. | 11They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD. | 11They will be roused like birds from Egypt and like doves from the land of Assyria. Then I will settle them in their homes. This is the LORD's declaration. |
12Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, Israel with deceit. And Judah is unruly against God, even against the faithful Holy One. | 12Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit, but Judah still walks with God and is faithful to the Holy One. | 12Ephraim surrounds Me with lies And the house of Israel with deceit; Judah is also unruly against God, Even against the Holy One who is faithful. | 12Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints. | 12 Ephraim surrounds me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit. Judah still wanders with God and is faithful to the holy ones. |
