The Lord Calls Samuel

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.1Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD in the presence of Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.1Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli. And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.1And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.1The boy Samuel served the LORD in Eli's presence. In those days the word of the LORD was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.
2One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.2At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place.2It happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well),2And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;2One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing, was lying in his room.
3The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the LORD, where the ark of God was.3The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.3and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was,3And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;3Before the lamp of God had gone out, Samuel was lying down in the tabernacle of the LORD, where the ark of God was located.
4Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, "Here I am."4Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!”4that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, "Here I am."4That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.4Then the LORD called Samuel, and he answered, "Here I am."
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5And he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." But Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down." So he went and lay down.5and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.5Then he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, lie down again." So he went and lay down.5And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.5He ran to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." "I didn't call," Eli replied. "Go back and lie down." So he went and lay down.
6Again the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." "My son," Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down."6And the LORD called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”6The LORD called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he answered, "I did not call, my son, lie down again."6And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.6Once again the LORD called, "Samuel!" Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; you called me." "I didn't call, my son," he replied. "Go back and lie down."
7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him.7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.7Now Samuel had not yet experienced the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8A third time the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy.8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy.8So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy.8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.8Once again, for the third time, the LORD called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; you called me." Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the boy.
9So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9And Eli said to Samuel, "Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9He told Samuel, "Go and lie down. If He calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

God's Judgment against Eli

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."10And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”10Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.10The LORD came, stood there, and called as before, "Samuel, Samuel!" Samuel responded, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."
11And the LORD said to Samuel: "See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.11Then the LORD said to Samuel, “Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which the two ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.11The LORD said to Samuel, "Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.11And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.11The LORD said to Samuel, "I am about to do something in Israel that everyone who hears about it will shudder.
12At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family--from beginning to end.12On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.12"In that day I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.12In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.12On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I said about his family, from beginning to end.
13For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them.13And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them.13"For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.13For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.13I told him that I am going to judge his family forever because of the iniquity he knows about: his sons are defiling the sanctuary, and he has not stopped them.
14Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, 'The guilt of Eli's house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.'"14Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”14"Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."14And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.14Therefore, I have sworn to Eli's family: The iniquity of Eli's family will never be wiped out by either sacrifice or offering."

Samuel Shares his Vision

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
15Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,15Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.15So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.15And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.15Samuel lay down until the morning; then he opened the doors of the LORD's house. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,
16but Eli called him and said, "Samuel, my son." Samuel answered, "Here I am."16But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”16Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am."16Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.16but Eli called him and said, "Samuel, my son." "Here I am," answered Samuel.
17"What was it he said to you?" Eli asked. "Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you."17And Eli said, “What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also if you hide anything from me of all that he told you.”17He said, "What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you."17And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.17"What was the message He gave you?" Eli asked. "Don't hide it from me. May God punish you and do so severely if you hide anything from me that He told you."
18So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, "He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes."18So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him.”18So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to Him."18And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.18So Samuel told him everything and did not hide anything from him. Eli responded, "He is the LORD. He will do what He thinks is good."

19The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel's words fall to the ground.19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.19Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail.19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.19Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and He fulfilled everything Samuel prophesied.
20And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.20And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD.20All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.20And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.20All Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was a confirmed prophet of the LORD.
21The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.21And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.21And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, because the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.21And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.21The LORD continued to appear in Shiloh, because there He revealed Himself to Samuel by His word.
