1 Then Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning He came back to the Temple, and all the people gathered around Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3And then the scribes and Pharisees brought in to Him a woman caught in adultery; and put her in front of everyone. 4Then they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses, in the law, commanded that such should be stoned; but what do You say?” 6This they said to test Him, so that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooped down, and with His finger, wrote upon the ground, as though He did not hear them. 7So when they continued asking Him, He stood up and said to them, “Let whoever among you is without sin throw the first a stone at her”. 8And He again stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9And they, upon hearing that, and being convicted by their own conscience, began going away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, until only Jesus and the woman were left standing there. 10When Jesus had stood up, and seeing no one except the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are all of your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” 11She replied, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more.”

12Then Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world; whoever follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”. 13Then the Pharisees challenged Him by saying, “You make these claims about Yourself; Your testimony is not valid.” 14Jesus answered, “Even though I testify of myself, yet My testimony is valid; for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you have no idea where I came from, nor where I am going. 15You judge by human standards; but I judge no one. 16And if I did judge, My judgment would be correct; for I am not alone, but I and the Father Who sent Me is with Me. 17In your own law it says that the testimony of two men is true. 18I am one that bears witness of Myself, and My other witness is My Father Who sent Me.” 19Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You neither know Me, nor My Father; if you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” 20These words were spoken by Jesus near what was called the treasury, where people put their offerings, as He taught in the temple. And no man seized Him; because His hour had not yet come.

21Then Jesus said further to them, “I will be going away, and you shall look for Me, and shall die in your sins. Where I go, you cannot come.” 22This caused the Jews to ask, “Will He kill Himself? What does He mean by, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’”. 23And He continued, “You are from below; I am from above; you are of this world; I am not of this world. 24That is why I told you that you shall die in your sins; because if you do not believe that I am He (the Messiah), you shall die in your sins.”

25Then they asked Him, “Who are You?” And Jesus replied, “The same as I have been telling you from the beginning. 26I have much to say in judgment of you; but He Who sent Me is true and trustworthy; and I tell the world those things which I have heard from Him”. 27They did not grasp what He told them about the Father. 28Then Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My Own; but only as My Father has taught Me. 29And He that sent Me is with Me; the Father has not left Me alone; for I always do what pleases Him.”

30As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. 31Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in Him, “If you continue in My word (what I have taught you), then you are truly My disciples; 32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” 33They answered Him, “We are Abraham's descendants, and were never slaves to any man. Why do You say, “You shall be set free”?” 34Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, whoever commits sin is the slave to sin. 35And the slave has no permanent place in the family; but a son remains part of the family forever. 36If the Son (Christ), sets you free, you shall be free indeed. 37I know that you are Abraham's descendants; yet some of you seek to kill Me, because you have no room for My word in you. 38I am telling you what I have seen in the presence of My Father; and you are doing what you have seen and heard from your earthly father”. 39They replied, “Abraham is our father”. Jesus said to them, “If you were truly Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did. 40But as it is, you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth that I have heard from God. Abraham never did such things. 41You are imitating your real father.” Then said they to Him, “We are not illegitimate children; we have one Father - God, Himself.” 42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me; for I came here from God; nor did I come of My Own accord, but God sent Me. 43Why are My words unclear to you? It is because you cannot accept My words. 44You are of your father the devil, and the want to do your father’s will. He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning, and not bound by the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he is speaking in his native tongue, for he is a liar, and the father of lies. 45And because I tell you the truth, you will not believe Me. 46Which of you can truthfully convict Me of sin? And if I tell you the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47Whoever is of God hears God's words; the reason you do not hear them is because you are not of (do not belong to) God.”

48Then the Jews said to Him, “Are we not right when we say that You are a Samaritan, and have a demon?” 49Jesus answered, “I have no demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50I am not seeking My own glory; there is One that seeks it and judges. 51Very truly, I tell you, whoever obeys My words shall never see death”. 52Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If a man obeys My word, he shall never taste of death’. 53Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets that are also dead; Who do You claim to be?” 54Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing; it is My Father that honors Me; Whom you claim is your God. 55And yet you do not know Him; but I do know Him; and if I should say, I do not know Him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know Him, and obey His word. 56Your father, Abraham, rejoiced to see My day; and he saw it, and was glad”. 57Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58Jesus answered, “Very truly, I say to you, ‘Before Abraham was, I am.’” 59At this, they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and slipped out of the temple, passing through their midst, and so passed by.
