It Is Good to Sing Praises

הַ֥לְלוּ (Hallelu) יָ֨הּ׀ (YAH)!

כִּי־ (For) ט֭וֹב (it is good) זַמְּרָ֣ה (to praise) אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (our God);

כִּֽי־ (how) נָ֝עִים (pleasant)— נָאוָ֥ה (and beautiful)— תְהִלָּֽה׃ (is praise).

2  בּוֹנֵ֣ה (The One building up) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֣ם (Jerusalem) יְהוָ֑ה (is YHWH);

נִדְחֵ֖י (and the exiles) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) יְכַנֵּֽס׃ (He gathers).

3  הָ֭רֹפֵא (Giving healing) לִשְׁב֣וּרֵי (to the broken) לֵ֑ב (of heart),

וּ֝מְחַבֵּ֗שׁ (and binding up) לְעַצְּבוֹתָֽם׃ (their wounds).

4  מוֹנֶ֣ה (Appointing) מִ֭סְפָּר (the number) לַכּוֹכָבִ֑ים (of the stars);

לְ֝כֻלָּ֗ם (for all of them) שֵׁמ֥וֹת (by names) יִקְרָֽא׃ (He calls).

5  גָּד֣וֹל (Great is) אֲדוֹנֵ֣ינוּ (our Lord), וְרַב־ (and abundant) כֹּ֑חַ (in power);

לִ֝תְבוּנָת֗וֹ (of His understanding) אֵ֣ין (there is no) מִסְפָּֽר׃ (numbering).

6  מְעוֹדֵ֣ד (Restores) עֲנָוִ֣ים (the humble) יְהוָ֑ה (is YHWH);

מַשְׁפִּ֖יל (He casts down) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (the wicked) עֲדֵי־ (to) אָֽרֶץ׃ (the ground).

7  עֱנ֣וּ (Sing) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) בְּתוֹדָ֑ה (with thanksgiving);

זַמְּר֖וּ (make music) לֵאלֹהֵ֣ינוּ (to our God) בְכִנּֽוֹר׃ (on the harp),

8  הַֽמְכַסֶּ֬ה (to the One covering) שָׁמַ֨יִם׀ (the heavens) בְּעָבִ֗ים (with clouds),

הַמֵּכִ֣ין (the One preparing) לָאָ֣רֶץ (for the earth) מָטָ֑ר (rain),

הַמַּצְמִ֖יחַ (the One making sprout) הָרִ֣ים (on the hills) חָצִֽיר׃ (grass).

9  נוֹתֵ֣ן (Giving) לִבְהֵמָ֣ה (to the beast) לַחְמָ֑הּ (its food),

לִבְנֵ֥י (and to the young) עֹ֝רֵ֗ב (of the ravens) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יִקְרָֽאוּ׃ (call out).

10  לֹ֤א (Not) בִגְבוּרַ֣ת (in the strength) הַסּ֣וּס (of the horse) יֶחְפָּ֑ץ (does He delight);

לֹֽא־ (and not) בְשׁוֹקֵ֖י (in the legs) הָאִ֣ישׁ (of the man) יִרְצֶֽה׃ (does He take pleasure).

11  רוֹצֶ֣ה (Is pleased with) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) יְרֵאָ֑יו (those who fear him) אֶת־ (-)

הַֽמְיַחֲלִ֥ים (those hoping) לְחַסְדּֽוֹ׃ (in His loving devotion).

12  שַׁבְּחִ֣י (Exalt), יְ֭רוּשָׁלִַם (O Jerusalem), אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH).

הַֽלְלִ֖י (Praise) אֱלֹהַ֣יִךְ (your God), צִיּֽוֹן׃ (O Zion).

13  כִּֽי־ (For) חִ֭זַּק (He has strengthened) בְּרִיחֵ֣י (the bars) שְׁעָרָ֑יִךְ (of your gates);

בֵּרַ֖ךְ (He has blessed) בָּנַ֣יִךְ (your sons) בְּקִרְבֵּֽךְ׃ (within you).

14  הַשָּׂם־ (The One making) גְּבוּלֵ֥ךְ (for your border) שָׁל֑וֹם (peace);

חֵ֥לֶב (with the fat) חִ֝טִּ֗ים (of wheat) יַשְׂבִּיעֵֽךְ׃ (He satisfies you).

15  הַשֹּׁלֵ֣חַ (The One sending forth) אִמְרָת֣וֹ (His utterance) אָ֑רֶץ (to the earth);

עַד־ (how) מְ֝הֵרָ֗ה (swiftly) יָר֥וּץ (runs) דְּבָרֽוֹ׃ (His word).

16  הַנֹּתֵ֣ן (The One giving) שֶׁ֣לֶג (snow) כַּצָּ֑מֶר (like wool);

כְּ֝פ֗וֹר (the frost) כָּאֵ֥פֶר (like ashes) יְפַזֵּֽר׃ (He scatters),

17  מַשְׁלִ֣יךְ (casting forth) קַֽרְח֣וֹ (His hail) כְפִתִּ֑ים (like morsels).

לִפְנֵ֥י (Before the face) קָ֝רָת֗וֹ (of His cold) מִ֣י (who) יַעֲמֹֽד׃ (can stand)?

18  יִשְׁלַ֣ח (He sends out) דְּבָר֣וֹ (His word) וְיַמְסֵ֑ם (and melts them).

יַשֵּׁ֥ב (He makes blow) ר֝וּח֗וֹ (His wind) יִזְּלוּ־ (and flow) מָֽיִם׃ (the waters).

19  מַגִּ֣יד (He declares) דְּבָרוֹ (His words) לְיַעֲקֹ֑ב (to Jacob),

חֻקָּ֥יו (His statutes) וּ֝מִשְׁפָּטָ֗יו (and His judgments) לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (to Israel).

20  לֹ֘א (Not) עָ֤שָׂה (He has done) כֵ֨ן׀ (so) לְכָל־ (for any) גּ֗וֹי (nation);

וּמִשְׁפָּטִ֥ים (and His judgments) בַּל־ (not) יְדָע֗וּם (they have known)

הַֽלְלוּ־ (Praise) יָֽהּ׃ (YAH).
