(Judges 1:1–7)

1  וִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ (And Joshua) זָקֵ֔ן (was old), בָּ֖א (advanced) בַּיָּמִ֑ים (in years), וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (and said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֵלָ֗יו (to him), אַתָּ֤ה (You) זָקַ֙נְתָּה֙ (are old), בָּ֣אתָ (advanced) בַיָּמִ֔ים (in years), וְהָאָ֛רֶץ (and of the land) נִשְׁאֲרָ֥ה (there remains) הַרְבֵּֽה־ (much) מְאֹ֖ד (very) לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ (to be possessed). 2  זֹ֥את (This is) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the land) הַנִּשְׁאָ֑רֶת (that remains):

כָּל־ (All) גְּלִיל֥וֹת (the territory) הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים (of the Philistines) וְכָל־ (and all) הַגְּשׁוּרִֽי׃ (of the Geshurite), 3  מִֽן־ (from) הַשִּׁיח֞וֹר (Shihor), אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (which is) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) מִצְרַ֗יִם (of Egypt), וְעַ֨ד (and as far as) גְּב֤וּל (the border) עֶקְרוֹן֙ (of Ekron) צָפ֔וֹנָה (northward), לַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖י (to the Canaanite); תֵּחָשֵׁ֑ב (it is reckoned) חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת׀ (the five) סַרְנֵ֣י (lords) פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים (of the Philistines)— הָעַזָּתִ֤י (the Gazite), וְהָאַשְׁדּוֹדִי֙ (and the Ashdodite), הָאֶשְׁקְלוֹנִ֣י (the Ashkelonite), הַגִּתִּ֔י (the Gittite), וְהָעֶקְרוֹנִ֖י (and the Ekronite); וְהָעַוִּֽים׃ (and the Avite);

4  מִתֵּימָ֞ן (from the south) כָּל־ (all) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֗י (of the Canaanite), וּמְעָרָ֛ה (and Mearah) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that is) לַצִּידֹנִ֖ים (to the Sidonians), עַד־ (as far as) אֲפֵ֑קָה (Aphek), עַ֖ד (to) גְּב֥וּל (the border) הָאֱמֹרִֽי׃ (of the Amorite);

5  וְהָאָ֣רֶץ (and the land) הַגִּבְלִ֗י (of the Gebalites);

וְכָל־ (and all) הַלְּבָנוֹן֙ (Lebanon) מִזְרַ֣ח (toward the rising) הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ (of the sus), מִבַּ֣עַל (from Baal-) גָּ֔ד (gad) תַּ֖חַת (below) הַר־ (Mount) חֶרְמ֑וֹן (Hermon) עַ֖ד (to) לְב֥וֹא (to the entrance) חֲמָֽת׃ (to Hamath).

6  כָּל־ (All) יֹשְׁבֵ֣י (the dwellers) הָ֠הָר (of the hill country) מִֽן־ (from) הַלְּבָנ֞וֹן (Lebanon) עַד־ (as far as) מִשְׂרְפֹ֥ת (Misrephoth-) מַ֙יִם֙ (maim)— כָּל־ (all) צִ֣ידֹנִ֔ים (the Sidonians)— אָֽנֹכִי֙ (I) אוֹרִישֵׁ֔ם (will drive them out) מִפְּנֵ֖י (from before) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); רַ֠ק (only) הַפִּלֶ֤הָ (divide it by lot) לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (to Israel) בְּֽנַחֲלָ֔ה (as an inheritance), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) צִוִּיתִֽיךָ׃ (I have commanded you). 7  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And now) חַלֵּ֞ק (divide) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֧רֶץ (the land) הַזֹּ֛את (this) בְּנַחֲלָ֖ה (as an inheritance) לְתִשְׁעַ֣ת (to the nine) הַשְּׁבָטִ֑ים (tribes) וַחֲצִ֖י (and half) הַשֵּׁ֥בֶט (the tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּֽׁה׃ (of Manasseh).

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

8  עִמּ֗וֹ (With it) הָרֽאוּבֵנִי֙ (the Reubenite) וְהַגָּדִ֔י (and the Gadite) לָקְח֖וּ (received) נַחֲלָתָ֑ם (their inheritance), אֲשֶׁר֩ (which) נָתַ֨ן (had given) לָהֶ֜ם (them) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) בְּעֵ֤בֶר (beyond) הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ (the Jordan) מִזְרָ֔חָה (eastward), כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ (as) נָתַ֣ן (had given) לָהֶ֔ם (to them) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) עֶ֥בֶד (the servant) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH):

9  מֵעֲרוֹעֵ֡ר (From Aroer) אֲשֶׁר֩ (which is) עַל־ (on) שְׂפַת־ (the bank) נַ֨חַל (of the River) אַרְנ֜וֹן (Arnon), וְהָעִ֨יר (and the town) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that is) בְּתוֹךְ־ (in the midst) הַנַּ֛חַל (of the valley), וְכָל־ (and all) הַמִּישֹׁ֥ר (the plain) מֵידְבָ֖א (of Medeba) עַד־ (as far as) דִּיבֽוֹן׃ (Dibon); 10  וְכֹ֗ל (and all) עָרֵי֙ (the cities) סִיחוֹן֙ (of Sihon) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) הָאֱמֹרִ֔י (of the Amorite), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) מָלַ֖ךְ (reigned) בְּחֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן (in Heshbon), עַד־ (as far as) גְּב֖וּל (the border) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) עַמּֽוֹן׃ (of Ammon);

11  וְהַגִּלְעָ֞ד (and Gilead), וּגְב֧וּל (and the border) הַגְּשׁוּרִ֣י (of the Geshurite) וְהַמַּעֲכָתִ֗י (and Maachathite), וְכֹ֨ל (and all) הַ֥ר (of Mount) חֶרְמ֛וֹן (Hermon), וְכָל־ (and all) הַבָּשָׁ֖ן (of Bashan) עַד־ (as far as) סַלְכָֽה׃ (Salcah)— 12  כָּל־ (all) מַמְלְכ֥וּת (the kingdom) עוֹג֙ (of Og) בַּבָּשָׁ֔ן (in Bashan), אֲשֶׁר־ (who) מָלַ֥ךְ (reigned) בְּעַשְׁתָּר֖וֹת (in Ashtaroth) וּבְאֶדְרֶ֑עִי (and Edrei); ה֤וּא (he) נִשְׁאַר֙ (remained) מִיֶּ֣תֶר (of the remnant) הָרְפָאִ֔ים (of the Rephaim).

וַיַּכֵּ֥ם (And for had defeated), מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) וַיֹּרִשֵֽׁם׃ (and dispossessed them). 13  וְלֹ֤א (And not) הוֹרִ֙ישׁוּ֙ (did drive out) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) הַגְּשׁוּרִ֖י (the Geshurite) וְאֶת־ (or) הַמַּעֲכָתִ֑י (the Maachathite), וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב (and dwell) גְּשׁ֤וּר (the Geshurite) וּמַֽעֲכָת֙ (and Maacah) בְּקֶ֣רֶב (in the midst) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) עַ֖ד (until) הַיּ֥וֹם (day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

14  רַ֚ק (Only) לְשֵׁ֣בֶט (to the tribe) הַלֵּוִ֔י (of Levi) לֹ֥א (not) נָתַ֖ן (he had given) נַחֲלָ֑ה (an inheritance); אִשֵּׁ֨י (the fire offerings) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֤י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) ה֣וּא (are) נַחֲלָת֔וֹ (their inheritance), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) דִּבֶּר־ (He said) לֽוֹ׃ס (to them).

Reuben’s Inheritance

15  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And had given) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) לְמַטֵּ֥ה (to the tribe) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) רְאוּבֵ֖ן (of Reuben) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans).

16  וַיְהִ֨י (And was) לָהֶ֜ם (their) הַגְּב֗וּל (territory) מֵעֲרוֹעֵ֡ר (from Aroer) אֲשֶׁר֩ (which is) עַל־ (on) שְׂפַת־ (the bank) נַ֨חַל (of the River) אַרְנ֜וֹן (Arnon), וְהָעִ֨יר (and the city) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that is) בְּתוֹךְ־ (in the midst) הַנַּ֛חַל (of the valley), וְכָל־ (and all) הַמִּישֹׁ֖ר (the plain) עַל־ (by) מֵידְבָֽא׃ (Medeba), 17  חֶשְׁבּ֥וֹן (Heshbon) וְכָל־ (and all) עָרֶ֖יהָ (its cities) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that are) בַּמִּישֹׁ֑ר (in the plain), דִּיבוֹן֙ (Dibon), וּבָמ֣וֹת (and Bamoth-) בַּ֔עַל (and baal), וּבֵ֖ית (and Beth-) בַּ֥עַל (baal-) מְעֽוֹן׃ (meon), 18  וְיַ֥הְצָה (and Jahaz), וּקְדֵמֹ֖ת (and Kedemoth), וּמֵפָֽעַת׃ (and Mephaath), 19  וְקִרְיָתַ֣יִם (and Kiriathaim), וְשִׂבְמָ֔ה (and Sibmah), וְצֶ֥רֶת (and Zereth-) הַשַּׁ֖חַר (and shahar) בְּהַ֥ר (on the hill) הָעֵֽמֶק׃ (in the valley), 20  וּבֵ֥ית (and Beth-) פְּע֛וֹר (peor), וְאַשְׁדּ֥וֹת (and the slopes) הַפִּסְגָּ֖ה (of Pisgah), וּבֵ֥ית (and Beth-) הַיְשִׁמֽוֹת׃ (jeshimoth), 21  וְכֹל֙ (and all) עָרֵ֣י (the cities) הַמִּישֹׁ֔ר (of the plain), וְכָֽל־ (and all) מַמְלְכ֗וּת (the kingdom) סִיחוֹן֙ (of Sihon) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) הָאֱמֹרִ֔י (of the Amorite), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) מָלַ֖ךְ (reigned) בְּחֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן (in Heshbon), אֲשֶׁר֩ (whom) הִכָּ֨ה (had struck) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֹת֣וֹ׀ (with it), וְאֶת־ (and) נְשִׂיאֵ֣י (the princes) מִדְיָ֗ן (of Midian) אֶת־ (-) אֱוִ֤י (Evi), וְאֶת־ (and) רֶ֙קֶם֙ (Rekem), וְאֶת־ (and) צ֤וּר (Zur), וְאֶת־ (and) חוּר֙ (Hur), וְאֶת־ (and) רֶ֔בַע (Reba)), נְסִיכֵ֣י (princes) סִיח֔וֹן (of Sihon) יֹשְׁבֵ֖י (dwelling) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (in the land).

22  וְאֶת־ (And) בִּלְעָ֥ם (Balaam) בֶּן־ (son) בְּע֖וֹר (of Beor), הַקּוֹסֵ֑ם (the soothsayer), הָרְג֧וּ (killed) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel) בַּחֶ֖רֶב (with the sword), אֶל־ (among) חַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃ (those who killed were by them). 23  וַיְהִ֗י (And was) גְּבוּל֙ (the border) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) רְאוּבֵ֔ן (of Reuben) הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן (the Jordan) וּגְב֑וּל (and its bank).

זֹ֣את (This was) נַחֲלַ֤ת (the inheritance) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) רְאוּבֵן֙ (of Reuben) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔ם (by their clans), הֶעָרִ֖ים (the cities) וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃פ (and their villages).

Gad’s Inheritance

24  וַיִּתֵּ֤ן (And had given) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) לְמַטֵּה־ (to the tribe) גָ֔ד (of Gad), לִבְנֵי־ (to the sons) גָ֖ד (of Gad) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans).

25  וַיְהִ֤י (And was) לָהֶם֙ (their) הַגְּב֔וּל (territory) יַעְזֵר֙ (Jazer), וְכָל־ (and all) עָרֵ֣י (the cities) הַגִּלְעָ֔ד (of Gilead), וַחֲצִ֕י (and half) אֶ֖רֶץ (the land) בְּנֵ֣י (of the) עַמּ֑וֹן (Ammonites), עַד־ (as far as) עֲרוֹעֵ֕ר (Aroer) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) רַבָּֽה׃ (of Rabbah);

26  וּמֵחֶשְׁבּ֛וֹן (and from Heshbon) עַד־ (to) רָמַ֥ת (Ramath-) הַמִּצְפֶּ֖ה (mizpeh) וּבְטֹנִ֑ים (and Betonim), וּמִֽמַּחֲנַ֖יִם (and from Mahanaim) עַד־ (to) גְּב֥וּל (the border) לִדְבִֽר׃ (of Li-debir);

27  וּבָעֵ֡מֶק (and in the valley), בֵּ֣ית (Beth-) הָרָם֩ (haram), וּבֵ֨ית (and Beth-) נִמְרָ֜ה (nimrah), וְסֻכּ֣וֹת (and Succoth), וְצָפ֗וֹן (and Zaphon), יֶ֚תֶר (the rest) מַמְלְכ֗וּת (of the kingdom) סִיחוֹן֙ (of Sihon) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן (of Heshbon) הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן (with the Jordan) וּגְבֻ֑ל (and as its border) עַד־ (as far as) קְצֵה֙ (the edge) יָם־ (of the Sea) כִּנֶּ֔רֶת (of Chinnereth) עֵ֥בֶר (on the other side) הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן (of the Jordan) מִזְרָֽחָה׃ (eastward).

28  זֹ֛את (This is) נַחֲלַ֥ת (the inheritance) בְּנֵי־ (of the sons) גָ֖ד (of Gad) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans), הֶעָרִ֖ים (the cities), וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽם׃ (and their villages).

Manasseh’s Eastern Inheritance

29  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And had given) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) לַחֲצִ֖י (to the half) שֵׁ֣בֶט (tribe) מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh), וַיְהִ֗י (and it was) לַחֲצִ֛י (for the half) מַטֵּ֥ה (tribe) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה (of Manasseh) לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans).

30  וַיְהִ֣י (And was) גְבוּלָ֗ם (their territory) מִמַּחֲנַ֨יִם (from Mahanaim) כָּֽל־ (all) הַבָּשָׁ֜ן (Bashan), כָּֽל־ (all) מַמְלְכ֣וּת׀ (the kingdom) ע֣וֹג (of Og) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) הַבָּשָׁ֗ן (of Bashan), וְכָל־ (and all) חַוֺּ֥ת (the towns) יָאִ֛יר (of Jair) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which are) בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן (in Bashan), שִׁשִּׁ֥ים (sixty) עִֽיר׃ (cities); 31  וַחֲצִ֤י (and half) הַגִּלְעָד֙ (of Gilead), וְעַשְׁתָּר֣וֹת (and Ashtaroth), וְאֶדְרֶ֔עִי (and Edrei), עָרֵ֛י (cities) מַמְלְכ֥וּת (of the kingdom) ע֖וֹג (of Og) בַּבָּשָׁ֑ן (in Bashan), לִבְנֵ֤י (were for the sons) מָכִיר֙ (of Machir) בֶּן־ (son) מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה (of Manasseh), לַחֲצִ֥י (for half) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) מָכִ֖יר (of Machir) לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans).

32  אֵ֕לֶּה (These are) אֲשֶׁר־ (that which) נִחַ֥ל (had distributed as an inheritance) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) בְּעַֽרְב֣וֹת (in the plains) מוֹאָ֑ב (of Moab), מֵעֵ֛בֶר (on the other side) לְיַרְדֵּ֥ן (of the Jordan) יְרִיח֖וֹ (by Jericho) מִזְרָֽחָה׃ס (eastward).

33  וּלְשֵׁ֙בֶט֙ (And to the tribe) הַלֵּוִ֔י (of Levi) לֹֽא־ (no) נָתַ֥ן (had given) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) נַחֲלָ֑ה (inheritance); יְהוָ֞ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֤י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) ה֣וּא (was) נַחֲלָתָ֔ם (their inheritance), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) דִּבֶּ֥ר (He had said) לָהֶֽם׃ (to them).
