A Prophecy against Mount Seir

1 וַיְהִ֥י (And came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),

2 בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֕ם (of man), שִׂ֥ים (set) פָּנֶ֖יךָ (your face) עַל־ (against) הַ֣ר (Mount) שֵׂעִ֑יר (Seir), וְהִנָּבֵ֖א (and prophesy) עָלָֽיו׃ (against it).

3 וְאָמַ֣רְתָּ (And say) לּ֗וֹ (to it) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); הִנְנִ֥י (behold, I am) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (against you) הַר־ (O Mount) שֵׂעִ֑יר (Seir), וְנָטִ֤יתִי (and I will stretch out) יָדִי֙ (My hand) עָלֶ֔יךָ (against you) וּנְתַתִּ֖יךָ (and I will make you) שְׁמָמָ֥ה (a desolation) וּמְשַׁמָּֽה׃ (and a waste).

4 עָרֶ֙יךָ֙ (Your cities) חָרְבָּ֣ה (a ruin), אָשִׂ֔ים (I will make) וְאַתָּ֖ה (and you) שְׁמָמָ֣ה (a desolation), תִֽהְיֶ֑ה (will become) וְיָדַעְתָּ֖ (and you will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

5 יַ֗עַן (Because) הֱי֤וֹת (there has been) לְךָ֙ (for you) אֵיבַ֣ת (a hatred), עוֹלָ֔ם (ancient) וַתַּגֵּ֥ר (and have poured out) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) עַל־ (upon) יְדֵי־ (the hands) חָ֑רֶב (of the sword) בְּעֵ֣ת (at the time) אֵידָ֔ם (of their calamity), בְּעֵ֖ת (at the time) עֲוֺ֥ן (of the iniquity) קֵֽץ׃ (of the end),

6 לָכֵ֣ן (therefore), חַי־ (as live), אָ֗נִי (I) נְאֻם֙ (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֣י (of the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH) כִּֽי־ (now) לְדָ֥ם (unto blood), אֶעֶשְׂךָ֖ (I appoint you) וְדָ֣ם (and blood) יִרְדֲּפֶ֑ךָ (will pursue you) אִם־ (since) לֹ֥א (not) דָ֛ם (blood), שָׂנֵ֖אתָ (did you hate) וְדָ֥ם (and blood) יִרְדֲּפֶֽךָ׃ (will pursue you).

7 וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ (And I will make) אֶת־ (-) הַ֣ר (Mount) שֵׂעִ֔יר (Seir) לְשִֽׁמְמָ֖ה (into a desolation) וּשְׁמָמָ֑ה (and a desolation), וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י (and I will cut off) מִמֶּ֖נּוּ (from it) עֹבֵ֥ר (the one passing by) וָשָֽׁב׃ (and the one returning).

8 וּמִלֵּאתִ֥י (And I will fill) אֶת־ (-) הָרָ֖יו (its mountains) חֲלָלָ֑יו (the slain) גִּבְעוֹתֶ֤יךָ (on your hills), וְגֵאוֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ (and in your valleys), וְכָל־ (and in all) אֲפִיקֶ֔יךָ (your ravines), חַלְלֵי־ (those slain by) חֶ֖רֶב (the sword) יִפְּל֥וּ (will fall) בָהֶֽם׃ (in them).

9 שִֽׁמְמ֤וֹת (A desolation), עוֹלָם֙ (forever) אֶתֶּנְךָ֔ (I will make you) וְעָרֶ֖יךָ (and your cities) לֹ֣א (not) תֵישַׁבְנָה (will be inhabited). וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם (And you⁺ will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

10 יַ֣עַן (Because) אֲ֠מָרְךָ (you have said), אֶת־ (-) שְׁנֵ֨י (the two) הַגּוֹיִ֜ם (nations) וְאֶת־ (and) שְׁתֵּ֧י (the two) הָאֲרָצ֛וֹת (lands) לִ֥י (for me) תִהְיֶ֖ינָה (will be) וִֽירַשְׁנ֑וּהָ (and we will possess them) וַֽיהוָ֖ה (and YHWH) שָׁ֥ם (there), הָיָֽה׃ (has been).

11 לָכֵ֣ן (Therefore), חַי־ (as live), אָ֗נִי (I) נְאֻם֮ (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֣י (of the Lord) יְהוִה֒ (YHWH), וְעָשִׂ֗יתִי (and I will do) כְּאַפְּךָ֙ (according to your anger), וּכְקִנְאָ֣תְךָ֔ (and according to the jealousy) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (with which) עָשִׂ֔יתָה (you acted) מִשִּׂנְאָתֶ֖יךָ (in your hatred) בָּ֑ם (against them) וְנוֹדַ֥עְתִּי (and I will make Myself known) בָ֖ם (among them) כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (accordingly) אֶשְׁפְּטֶֽךָ׃ (I judge you).

12 וְֽיָדַעְתָּ֮ (And you will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָה֒ (YHWH), שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי׀ (I have heard) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) נָאָֽצוֹתֶ֗יךָ (your despisings) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) אָמַ֛רְתָּ (you have said) עַל־ (about) הָרֵ֥י (the mountains) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel), לֵאמֹ֣ר׀ (saying), שָׁמֵמָה (They are desolate), לָ֥נוּ (to us) נִתְּנ֖וּ (they are given) לְאָכְלָֽה׃ (for food).

13 וַתַּגְדִּ֤ילוּ (Thus you⁺ have boasted) עָלַי֙ (against Me) בְּפִיכֶ֔ם (with your⁺ mouth) וְהַעְתַּרְתֶּ֥ם (and you⁺ have multiplied) עָלַ֖י (against Me) דִּבְרֵיכֶ֑ם (your⁺ words) אֲנִ֖י (I) שָׁמָֽעְתִּי׃ס (have heard it Myself).

14 כֹּ֥ה (Thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH); כִּשְׂמֹ֙חַ֙ (according to the rejoicing), כָּל־ (of all) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth) שְׁמָמָ֖ה (desolation) אֶעֱשֶׂה־ (I will make) לָּֽךְ׃ (for you).

15 כְּשִׂמְחָ֨תְךָ֜ (According to your rejoicing) לְנַחְלַ֧ת (at the inheritance) בֵּֽית־ (of the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel), עַ֥ל (upon) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) שָׁמֵ֖מָה (it has become desolate), כֵּ֣ן (so) אֶעֱשֶׂה־ (will I do) לָּ֑ךְ (to you) שְׁמָמָ֨ה (a desolation), תִֽהְיֶ֤ה (you will become) הַר־ (O Mount) שֵׂעִיר֙ (Seir), וְכָל־ (and all) אֱד֣וֹם (of Edom), כֻּלָּ֔הּ (all of it) וְיָדְע֖וּ (and they will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).
