David and Mephibosheth

1  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) דָּוִ֔ד (David), הֲכִ֣י (Is) יֶשׁ־ (there one) ע֔וֹד (yet) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) נוֹתַ֖ר (is left) לְבֵ֣ית (fot the house) שָׁא֑וּל (of Saul), וְאֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה (that I may do) עִמּוֹ֙ (for him) חֶ֔סֶד (kindness) בַּעֲב֖וּר (for the sake) יְהוֹנָתָֽן׃ (of Jonathan)?

2  וּלְבֵ֨ית (And to the house) שָׁא֥וּל (of Saul) עֶ֙בֶד֙ (was a servant), וּשְׁמ֣וֹ (and his name was) צִיבָ֔א (Ziba). וַיִּקְרְאוּ־ (And they called) ל֖וֹ (him) אֶל־ (to) דָּוִ֑ד (David), וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (and said) הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ (the king) אֵלָ֛יו (to him) הַאַתָּ֥ה (Are you) צִיבָ֖א (Ziba)?

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And he said), עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ (Your servant).

3  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ (the king), הַאֶ֨פֶס (Is not) ע֥וֹד (still) אִישׁ֙ (a man) לְבֵ֣ית (to the house) שָׁא֔וּל (of Saul), וְאֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה (and I may show) עִמּ֖וֹ (to him) חֶ֣סֶד (the kindness) אֱלֹהִ֑ים (of God).

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) צִיבָא֙ (Ziba) אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (the king), ע֛וֹד (There is still) בֵּ֥ן (a son) לִיהוֹנָתָ֖ן (of Jonathan), נְכֵ֥ה (lame) רַגְלָֽיִם׃ (in his feet).

4  וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ (And said) ל֥וֹ (to him) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king), אֵיפֹ֣ה (Where is) ה֑וּא (he)?

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) צִיבָא֙ (Ziba) אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (the king), הִנֵּה־ (Behold), ה֗וּא (he is) בֵּ֛ית (in the house) מָכִ֥יר (of Machir), בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּיאֵ֖ל (of Ammiel), בְּל֥וֹ (in Lo-) דְבָֽר׃ (debar).

5  וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח (And sent), הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (King) דָּוִ֑ד (David) וַיִּקָּחֵ֗הוּ (and brought him) מִבֵּ֛ית (out of the house) מָכִ֥יר (of Machir), בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּיאֵ֖ל (of Ammiel) מִלּ֥וֹ (in Lo-) דְבָֽר׃ (debar). 6  וַ֠יָּבֹא (And had come) מְפִיבֹ֨שֶׁת (Mephibosheth) בֶּן־ (son) יְהוֹנָתָ֤ן (of Jonathan), בֶּן־ (son) שָׁאוּל֙ (of Saul), אֶל־ (to) דָּוִ֔ד (David), וַיִּפֹּ֥ל (and he fell) עַל־ (on) פָּנָ֖יו (his face) וַיִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ (and bowed low).

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) דָּוִד֙ (David), מְפִיבֹ֔שֶׁת (Mephibosheth).

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (And he answered), הִנֵּ֥ה (Behold), עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ (your servant)!

7  וַיֹּאמֶר֩ (And said) ל֨וֹ (to him) דָוִ֜ד (David), אַל־ (Not) תִּירָ֗א (do fear), כִּ֣י (for) עָשֹׂה֩ (showing) אֶעֱשֶׂ֨ה (surely I will show) עִמְּךָ֥ (to you) חֶ֙סֶד֙ (kindness) בַּֽעֲבוּר֙ (for the sake) יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן (of Jonathan) אָבִ֔יךָ (your father), וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֣י (and I will restore) לְךָ֔ (to you) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) שְׂדֵ֖ה (the land) שָׁא֣וּל (of Saul) אָבִ֑יךָ (your grandfather), וְאַתָּ֗ה (and you) תֹּ֥אכַל (shall eat) לֶ֛חֶם (bread) עַל־ (at) שֻׁלְחָנִ֖י (my table) תָּמִֽיד׃ (continually).

8  וַיִּשְׁתַּ֕חוּ (And he bowed low) וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (and said), מֶ֣ה (What is) עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (your servant), כִּ֣י (that) פָנִ֔יתָ (you should look) אֶל־ (upon) הַכֶּ֥לֶב (a dog) הַמֵּ֖ת (dead) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (such) כָּמֽוֹנִי׃ (as I).

9  וַיִּקְרָ֣א (And called) הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ (the king) אֶל־ (to) צִיבָ֛א (Ziba) נַ֥עַר (servant) שָׁא֖וּל (of Saul), וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and said) אֵלָ֑יו (to him), כֹּל֩ (All) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) הָיָ֤ה (belonged) לְשָׁאוּל֙ (to Saul) וּלְכָל־ (and to all) בֵּית֔וֹ (his house), נָתַ֖תִּי (I have given) לְבֶן־ (to the son) אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ׃ (of your master). 10  וְעָבַ֣דְתָּ (And you will work) לּ֣וֹ (for him) אֶֽת־ (-) הָאֲדָמָ֡ה (the land) אַתָּה֩ (you) וּבָנֶ֨יךָ (and your sons) וַעֲבָדֶ֜יךָ (and your servants), וְהֵבֵ֗אתָ (and you shall bring in), וְהָיָ֨ה (that may have) לְבֶן־ (the son) אֲדֹנֶ֤יךָ (of your master) לֶּ֙חֶם֙ (food) וַאֲכָל֔וֹ (and to eat). וּמְפִיבֹ֙שֶׁת֙ (And Mephibosheth) בֶּן־ (son) אֲדֹנֶ֔יךָ (of your master) יֹאכַ֥ל (shall eat) תָּמִ֛יד (always) לֶ֖חֶם (bread) עַל־ (at) שֻׁלְחָנִ֑י (my table).

וּלְצִיבָ֗א (And Ziba had) חֲמִשָּׁ֥ה (five) עָשָׂ֛ר (and ten) בָּנִ֖ים (sons) וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים (and twenty) עֲבָדִֽים׃ (servants). 11  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) צִיבָא֙ (Ziba) אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (the king), כְּכֹל֩ (According to all) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יְצַוֶּ֜ה (has commanded) אֲדֹנִ֤י (my lord) הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ (the king) אֶת־ (-) עַבְדּ֔וֹ (his servant), כֵּ֖ן (so) יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה (will do) עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (your servant).

וּמְפִיבֹ֗שֶׁת (And as for Mephibosheth), אֹכֵל֙ (he shall eat) עַל־ (at) שֻׁלְחָנִ֔י (my table), כְּאַחַ֖ד (like one) מִבְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king). 12  וְלִמְפִיבֹ֥שֶׁת (And to Mephibosheth was) בֵּן־ (a son) קָטָ֖ן (young), וּשְׁמ֣וֹ (and his name was) מִיכָ֑א (Mica). וְכֹל֙ (And all) מוֹשַׁ֣ב (who dwelt) בֵּית־ (in the house) צִיבָ֔א (of Ziba) עֲבָדִ֖ים (were servants) לִמְפִיבֹֽשֶׁת׃ (of Mephibosheth). 13  וּמְפִיבֹ֗שֶׁת (And Mephibosheth) יֹשֵׁב֙ (dwelt) בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (in Jerusalem), כִּ֣י (for) עַל־ (at) שֻׁלְחַ֥ן (table) הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ (of the king) תָּמִ֖יד (continually) ה֣וּא (he) אֹכֵ֑ל (ate). וְה֥וּא (And he) פִסֵּ֖חַ (was lame) שְׁתֵּ֥י (in both) רַגְלָֽיו׃פ (of his feet).
