Temple Construction Begins
(1 Kings 6:1–4)

1  וַיָּ֣חֶל (And began) שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה (Solomon) לִבְנ֤וֹת (to build) אֶת־ (-) בֵּית־ (the house) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH)— בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (at Jerusalem) בְּהַר֙ (in the mount) הַמּ֣וֹרִיָּ֔ה (of Moriah) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (where) נִרְאָ֖ה (He had appeared) לְדָוִ֣יד (to David) אָבִ֑יהוּ (his father)— אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) הֵכִין֙ (had prepared) בִּמְק֣וֹם (in the place) דָּוִ֔יד (David) בְּגֹ֖רֶן (on the threshing floor) אָרְנָ֥ן (of Ornan) הַיְבוּסִֽי׃ (the Jebusite). 2  וַ֠יָּחֶל (And he began) לִבְנ֞וֹת (to build) בַּחֹ֤דֶשׁ (month) הַשֵּׁנִי֙ (in the second), בַּשֵּׁנִ֔י (on the second), בִּשְׁנַ֥ת (in the year) אַרְבַּ֖ע (fourth) לְמַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃ (of his reign).

3  וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ (And these) הוּסַ֣ד (founded) שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה (Solomon) לִבְנ֖וֹת (for building) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֣ית (the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים (of God). הָאֹ֡רֶךְ (The length was) אַמּ֞וֹת (by cubits) בַּמִּדָּ֤ה (according to the measure) הָרִֽאשׁוֹנָה֙ (by the former) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) שִׁשִּׁ֔ים (sixty), וְרֹ֖חַב (and the width) אַמּ֥וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִֽים׃ (twenty). 4  וְהָאוּלָ֡ם (And the portico) אֲשֶׁר֩ (that was) עַל־ (in) פְּנֵ֨י (the front), הָאֹ֜רֶךְ (the length) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֤י (the front) רֹֽחַב־ (the width) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (of the house) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִ֔ים (was twenty), וְהַגֹּ֖בַהּ (and the height was) מֵאָ֣ה (a hundred) וְעֶשְׂרִ֑ים (and twenty), וַיְצַפֵּ֥הוּ (and He overlaid) מִפְּנִ֖ימָה (the inside) זָהָ֥ב (with gold) טָהֽוֹר׃ (pure).

The Temple’s Interior
(1 Kings 6:14–22)

5  וְאֵ֣ת׀ (And) הַבַּ֣יִת (the room) הַגָּד֗וֹל (larger) חִפָּה֙ (he paneled) עֵ֣ץ (with) בְּרוֹשִׁ֔ים (cypress), וַיְחַפֵּ֖הוּ (and he overlaid it) זָהָ֣ב (with gold) ט֑וֹב (fine), וַיַּ֧עַל (and he carved) עָלָ֛יו (on it) תִּמֹרִ֖ים (palm trees) וְשַׁרְשְׁרֽוֹת׃ (and chains). 6  וַיְצַ֧ף (And he) אֶת־ (decorated) הַבַּ֛יִת (the house) אֶ֥בֶן (with stones) יְקָרָ֖ה (precious) לְתִפְאָ֑רֶת (for beauty), וְהַזָּהָ֖ב (and the gold was) זְהַ֥ב (was gold) פַּרְוָֽיִם׃ (of Parvaim). 7  וַיְחַ֨ף (And He overlaid) אֶת־ (-) הַבַּ֜יִת (the house), הַקֹּר֧וֹת (the beams), הַסִּפִּ֛ים (and the thresholds), וְקִֽירוֹתָ֥יו (and its walls) וְדַלְתוֹתָ֖יו (and its doors) זָהָ֑ב (with gold), וּפִתַּ֥ח (and he carved) כְּרוּבִ֖ים (cherubim) עַל־ (on) הַקִּירֽוֹת׃ס (the walls).

8  וַיַּ֙עַשׂ֙ (And he made) אֶת־ (-) בֵּֽית־ (the house), קֹ֣דֶשׁ (the Holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁ֔ים (of Holies), אָרְכּ֞וֹ (its length) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֤י (the front) רֹֽחַב־ (of the breadth) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (of the house) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִ֔ים (twenty), וְרָחְבּ֖וֹ (and its width) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִ֑ים (twenty). וַיְחַפֵּ֙הוּ֙ (And He overlaid it) זָהָ֣ב (with gold) ט֔וֹב (fine) לְכִכָּרִ֖ים (of talents) שֵׁ֥שׁ (six) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred). 9  וּמִשְׁקָ֛ל (And the weight) לְמִסְמְר֥וֹת (of the nails was) לִשְׁקָלִ֖ים (shekels) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (fifty) זָהָ֑ב (of gold), וְהָעֲלִיּ֖וֹת (and the upper area) חִפָּ֥ה (he overlaid) זָהָֽב׃ (with gold).

The Cherubim
(1 Kings 6:23–30)

10  וַיַּ֜עַשׂ (And he made) בְּבֵֽית־ (in the house), קֹ֤דֶשׁ (the Holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁים֙ (of Holies), כְּרוּבִ֣ים (cherubim) שְׁנַ֔יִם (two) מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה (work) צַעֲצֻעִ֑ים (fashioned), וַיְצַפּ֥וּ (and he overlaid) אֹתָ֖ם (them) זָהָֽב׃ (with gold), 11  וְכַנְפֵי֙ (and the wings) הַכְּרוּבִ֔ים (of the cherubim), אָרְכָּ֖ם (their length) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִ֑ים (twenty), כְּנַ֨ף (the wing) הָאֶחָ֜ד (of the one) לְאַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) חָמֵ֗שׁ (five) מַגַּ֙עַת֙ (touching) לְקִ֣יר (the wall) הַבַּ֔יִת (of the room), וְהַכָּנָ֤ף (and the wing) הָאַחֶ֙רֶת֙ (the other) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) חָמֵ֔שׁ (five), מַגִּ֕יעַ (touching) לִכְנַ֖ף (the wing) הַכְּר֥וּב (of the cherub) הָאַחֵֽר׃ (the other). 12  וּכְנַ֨ף (And the wing) הַכְּר֤וּב (of the cherub) הָאֶחָד֙ (one was) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) חָמֵ֔שׁ (five), מַגִּ֖יעַ (touching) לְקִ֣יר (the wall) הַבָּ֑יִת (of the room) וְהַכָּנָ֤ף (and the wing) הָאַחֶ֙רֶת֙ (the other) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) חָמֵ֔שׁ (five), דְּבֵקָ֕ה (adhering) לִכְנַ֖ף (to the wing) הַכְּר֥וּב (of the cherub) הָאַחֵֽר׃ (the other). 13  כַּנְפֵי֙ (The wings) הַכְּרוּבִ֣ים (of cherubim) הָאֵ֔לֶּה (these) פֹּֽרְשִׂ֖ים (spanned overall) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) עֶשְׂרִ֑ים (twenty), וְהֵ֛ם (and they) עֹמְדִ֥ים (stood) עַל־ (on) רַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם (their feet), וּפְנֵיהֶ֥ם (and they faced) לַבָּֽיִת׃ס (inward).

The Veil and Pillars
(1 Kings 7:13–22)

14  וַיַּ֙עַשׂ֙ (And he made) אֶת־ (-) הַפָּרֹ֔כֶת (the veil) תְּכֵ֥לֶת (of blue) וְאַרְגָּמָ֖ן (and purple) וְכַרְמִ֣יל (and crimson) וּב֑וּץ (and fine linen), וַיַּ֥עַל (and he brought up) עָלָ֖יו (into it) כְּרוּבִֽים׃ס (cherubim).

15  וַיַּ֜עַשׂ (And he made) לִפְנֵ֤י (at the front) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (of the house) עַמּוּדִ֣ים (pillars) שְׁנַ֔יִם (two), אַמּ֕וֹת (cubits) שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (thirty) וְחָמֵ֖שׁ (and five) אֹ֑רֶךְ (high), וְהַצֶּ֥פֶת (and the capital) אֲשֶׁר־ (that was) עַל־ (on) רֹאשׁ֖וֹ (its head) אַמּ֥וֹת (cubits) חָמֵֽשׁ׃ס (five).

16  וַיַּ֤עַשׂ (And He made) שַׁרְשְׁרוֹת֙ (chains) בַּדְּבִ֔יר (as in the inner sanctuary) וַיִּתֵּ֖ן (and put them) עַל־ (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) הָעַמֻּדִ֑ים (of the pillars), וַיַּ֤עַשׂ (and he made) רִמּוֹנִים֙ (pomegranates) מֵאָ֔ה (a hundred) וַיִּתֵּ֖ן (and put them) בַּֽשַּׁרְשְׁרֽוֹת׃ (on the chains). 17  וַיָּ֤קֶם (And he set up) אֶת־ (-) הָֽעַמּוּדִים֙ (the pillars) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הַהֵיכָ֔ל (of the temple), אֶחָ֥ד (one) מִיָּמִ֖ין (on the right hand) וְאֶחָ֣ד (and one) מֵֽהַשְּׂמֹ֑אול (on the left). וַיִּקְרָ֤א (And he called) שֵׁם־ (the name) הַיְמִינִי (on the right hand) יָכִ֔ין (Jachin), וְשֵׁ֥ם (and the name) הַשְּׂמָאלִ֖י (on the left) בֹּֽעַז׃ס (Boa z).
